Hi Guys

Well i did it my first oficial open water swim race. and im a real swimmer coz i opted for no wetsuits. Yes WOOH i wore bathers lol.

It was awesome 1.2 km and i cruised it in. flash back to december last year no way would i have seen myself swimming that far in the bay. I was terriefied of the idea of being out in theopen water. I had no way to orientate and that just freaked me.

but with a very patient coach who went out of his way to find time to help me slowly i have become more confident. we learned to use a tether and then last week i swam no wetsuit in training and felt fine..

I really wanted to do something with a group swim and Kevin suggested the Dromana bay swim so i entered. I was a little usure the weather was forecasting 44 and winds and i wasnt sure what the conditions would be like. Keving and i hadnt swum together with teh tether which although can be a bit worrying i was fine as i know Kev already and lets face it the guy can swim.

the club was wonderful made me feel very welcome and let everyone know to be aware of us. we headed out at the back of the pack and just swam. I had no idea how far but i knew when we were heading in i could smell the seaweed lol.

I ended up with a time of 32.45 i think. Fast slow i have no idea i was just happy to have completed my first open water swim with other people and not feel even slighly nervous.

so whats next the club to club. Kevin will be guide again and i cant wait. May even swim back to the start if the master is up to it lol

well done Staypuff! I also did my first ocean swim recently and did 1km in 26mins so I reckon your time is pretty good also. Esp as you had to put up with ole' KevinC slowing you down ;)

Anyway I think you did good because there's nothing wrong with my vision at all but I was still befreaking terrified to get out there in the sea and swim. First time I swam in the sea I saw fish and panicked! Til I remembered I was in the sea. And fish live in the sea. So it's okay.

Hope you can do another
Cheers

Yup in a couple of weeks.

Hey Keving is like the robot swimmer though i was dissapointed he didnt swim to the start i mean its only about 40 km from his place lol.

you have to fel safe when your swimming with someone who may as well be fish he swims that much lol.

well done on your own swim My friend Zoe swam yesterday as well she was also terrified of open water not to long ago but with patience and a good caoch she has come along brilliantly and is making me work hard to stay faster than her lol. we both know what its like to feel scared out there but once you stop fighting the ocean and learn to relax it aint so bad.
Was out there today and it was really choppy no wetsuit again and thinking this is dare i say fun swam no prob even though the waves were skimming the top of the pier headed in as the storm rolled over though no wetsuit means no protective rubber lol
