Hi All. I am looking for a little advice?
I have been running for about 2 years now and build up pretty gradually and now I can proudly say I am a runner with my current goal been the Comrades Marathon in South Africa.
I love to run but my enthusiasm is often dampened by my lack of experience, my current issue is, surprise surprise around Shoe. When I started running I got some advice and I bought 2 pairs of Nike Pegasus, which absolutely served their purpose. But when I upgraded to the new Nike Pegasus + 25 I thought I was doing the right thing but alas this has not been the case. The first week I wore them they were great (+-90km) but into the second I started to get burning sensation just above and Right knee cap and my left ITB started to tweak, I immediately went back to my old pair and I was able to keep my mileage upwith no discomfort. When I decided to brave them again within 2kms of the run I could feel the same pains and haven't tried the again.
I am pretty sure the technology in the new shoe is good but the change just does not agree with me. Our local sports store has less experience than me, hence the fact, I am looking for suggestion please. I am 85kg and have a neutral gait all my research is pointing towards the Asics Gel Cumulus, Brookes Glyarine and Mizuno Wave Riders (Difficult to source in SA). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Andrew,
It may be that they have softened the midsole in the new Pegasus. This will mean less resistance at strike and more compression that can lead to increased strain through the knees. Cushioning or shock attenuation is not the same as softness. There is an optimum firmness in the midsole for each runner depending on their weight and how hard they hit the ground. All of the shoes you mentioned would be firmer versions of shoes with similar type of neutral support. You might also want to try the Adidas Adistar Ride or Supernova Glide, Asics Nimbus, NB 1063, and Saucony Ride.

I had the same situation several years ago. My workaround was to contact every sports store and shoe shop I could find and I was able to locate a few pairs of the old model (at a good price as a bonus), which kept me going for a while...
