Brooks Glycerin And Mild Pronation

Part of my recovery from knee issues has been changing from a support shoe to a neutral shoe (Brooks Glycerin), as recommened by a podiatrist. So far I feel that has made a major difference to my knee and feels a lot better.
However, now I have done about 200kms in the Glycerins I can feel that my good leg (that I have never had any knee trouble with) is starting to pronate slightly - I can feel that when I land it seems to be on the inside of the shoe and rolls in ever so slightly. It is not causing any problems as yet but is a concern.
Does this mean that the shoes are on the way out (seems way too early)? Or do I pronate on one side and neutral on the other? Is this common?

Before, I have had Asics Kayana and Mizuno Inspire (recommened by a different pod many years ago), both of which used to feel like they were pushing my feet out, and I think contributing to my knee problem.

hi, not sure if this will be any help but a few months ago i could not get any brooks adrenalines in the wider size and needed shoes fast and did not want to change brands so i tried the brooks infiniti, its a motion control shoe and amazingly just a tad heavier than the adrenaline but it feels like a racing flat and its a comfy shoe to run in.

Hi cjr,

I got 1000km out of my last pair of Glycerins, so would be surprised if yours had worn out already. As I don't have any expertise in human running biomechanics, I can't comment on your pronation issues. That said, many people (and horses :unsure: ) have asymmetrical conformation. This could be a factor for you.

Pronation is normal and desirable. Over-pronation is what needs to be controlled. Do not buy pronation control shoes unless you over-pronate.

You should get at least 700-800k's out of Glycerins and possibly 1000k's depending upon your weight, biomechanics and running surfaces.

I'm no expert but possibly you require a neutral shoe combined with orthotics. Discuss orthotics with your podiatrist - a good podiatrist will give you some adhesive lined felt to stick under your inner soles to simulate orthotics before you commit to buying the real thing.

If you would like a shoe with slightly more midfoot stability than the Glycerin, you may like to try the Defyance - still neutral but a little stronger; or the Infiniti (as suggested by wozzam - glad to hear you like them!).
