Hi All,

I started running (doing the C25K program) nearly 9 weeks ago now. I went out at the start and bought some New Balance 1224 running shoes - selection criteria at the time was nothing more than they felt comfortable, seemed to be the right size, and were the right price.

I've done a lot of reading of forums, running magazines etc. since then and become aware that there are different types of shoes to suit different gaits. I think that the shoes that I'm running in are for a pronator, and from looking at wet footprints it seems as though I have a fairly neutral foot.

To my questions:

1) I'm wondering if there's any real harm in the combination I'm using ?

2) I'm aware that I'm no expert, and would like to be fitted for some shoes by a specialist running shoe store - does anyone know af a business offering this service in Adelaide ?

Thanks,
Spanky.

Spanky - good to see another SA CR!!!

If you become a SARRC member (south australian road runners club), you will also get some kind of discount with Joggers World (they are a sponsor of SARRC events) as well as be notified of special evenings when they offer even bigger discounts just for SARRC members.

Their web site is http://www.sarrc.asn.au.

Good luck!

Maybe it's worth seeing a podiatrist and working out if you're shoes are going to cause any difficulties? I'd be inclined to do this first rather than just go out and buy a new pair of shoes when your current pair is only 2 months old. You never know, maybe you got it right?

Hi Spanky,

Joggers world in the city have a pod that works above the store. I saw him when I had itb trouble last year and although the shoe type he recommended was available downstairs, I had a pair already so there was no need, or pressure, to buy another pair.

welcome to CR
cheers Dave

Thanks for the suggestions - I've been in to Joggers World this morning and have all manner of new goodies now :hi:
My feet have now had their 5 minutes of fame on the video treadmill and it turns out the shoes I had were a reasonable choice - just a little too wide.

I stepped out in some shiny new Brooks Beasts - keen to get out and have a run in them tomorrow.

Thanks again for all your help.

Cheers,
Spanky.
