Lewis wins on 400m debut
TAMSYN Lewis has won her first international 400m hurdles race, clocking 57.10 seconds at a meet in Shizuoka, Japan.
Lewis, 30, has switched her focus to the 400m hurdles and 400m flat events after being an 800m specialist for much of her long career.
She has yet to decide which one-lap event to contest at the world championships in Berlin in August.
Lewis's winning time in Shizuoka was almost a second slower than the 56.27 she clocked to win the national title in Brisbane in March.
Also in Shizuoka, fellow Australian Brendan Cole finished fourth in the men's 400m hurdles in 50.22.
Lewis and Cole will be joined by a larger contingent of Australians ahead of the IAAF grand prix event in Osaka on Saturday, including Sally McLellan and Melissa Breen in the women's 100m.
