tonight is the Ostrava golden meet called : Zlata Tretra (golden spike (shoe)).
appart from Bolt, who is promissed 100,000 usd for new WR and doing his media show-
driving car at airport at 240 km/h, showing muscles poses for photos etc and talking various stuff
(check teh 100-200-400 thread)
there is another serious contender for new WR :
in the womens 20,000 m race, the split distance for 1H run and teh 20,000m
Etiópian runner Dire Tune is attacking her own 1H record from last year in Ostrava (18 517 m),
She said she is feeling in much better form than last year and is confident to get both WR,
weather permitting - expected to be hot - 30 degrees during day.
The 20,000 m WR is 1:05:26,6 (3. september 2000 Keňyan Tegla Loroupe)
Steaple is another expected highlight with 2 olympic winners -
Ezekiel Kemboi (2004), Brimin Kiprut ( 2008) and Kenyan Paul Kipsiele Koech.
Hope is for new meets record, the old one is by Wilson Boit Kipketer (2002) 8:06,14
and there is expectation for time under 8 minutes
110mH - Robles
high jump - Vlasic
5000m W - Meselech Melkamu (ETH) , Linet Masai (KEN), Vivian Cheruiyot (KEN) expecting new meet record (14:30,18)
strong competition in W javelin of course with Czech Spotakova home star

Just out of curiosity, how do they measure the 1hr split?

no no brodcast of course, You can check result on IAAF website tomorow or wait for my translation.
1H split, (and usually all other results, like 6H 12H 24H etc) are done in a way, that either the runner is handed in some marker - like snadbag with runners number, or the official runs with runner and is holding the marker and at the gun fired the markers are dropped
unless in races like this there would have some photo measuring system in place, but I assume teh drop marker thingy would be used anyway as a backup.

I am not sure that running with a sandbag is going to help her time much, maybe she is hoping to become a brickies labourer?

OK here are the results :
Bolt fenomenal 9.77, but the wind was just a bit over +2.1, so could not be official meet record and the year world best.

Tune missed her own 1H record by 215 metres and teh 20,000 record by some 8 secs, believes she is capable of getting record, complaining not enough and not fast enough rabbits, so she run on her own after 10k = sticky ethical topic on CR of course

Aussies:
Jeff Riseley 1:45.48(800m) 3rd in his heat 8th fastest overall. New PB as his old one was 1:46.35. Excellent.
Ryan Gregson 3:59.67(mile) 12th overall.
Our newest sub 4min mile man at only 19? Sensational.
Youcef Abdi 8:38.94(Steeple) 13th overall.

Great run by Riseley. It is looking very good for his 1500. Solid start by Gregson by his standard. He is only the second Aussie junior to go sub 4 for the mile.

the stars of the past had a nice chat, tease and a bet.
Zelezny, Kipketter and Kratochvilova
Kipketter received the honour start number with number 1:41.11
and Kratochvilova with 1:53.28
Kipketter said he is now running every day, getting ready for ehxibition 5000m race
and that at the moment, if he was going to race 800 he is good for 1:50.
Kratochvilova has broken little toe so was not keen about predicting her theoretical performance.
Kipketter teased Zelezny into a bet for next year in Ostrava (Zelezny is RD):
Zelezny will run 800 and Kipketter and Kratochvilova will do javelin, Kratochvilova however insisted she would rather run anything than doing any throws.
Kipketter said he cant see anybody atm to get his WR,
Kratochvilova still believes that Jelimo is the best chance for her and refused to speculate what is behind Jelimo's this year pathetic performance.
