Does anyone know if the World Athletic Championships are being broadcast on Australian TV? If so, which channel?

Thank you!

SBS has some coverage starting 2am Sunday August 16th EST. 1st day of Champs.

McLellan is in hot form at the moment for the 100m Hurdles title after breaking her own Australian Record this week.

I wonder if foxtel will be replaying any of it on fox sports at a more human time?

I love my Foxtel IQ box, it records things so I can watch later(at a much more friendly time).

And as it is athletics, there is very little chance that mainstream news will tell me the results so it will be like watching it live. :)

HillsAths1, can you record normal channels through IQ (eg. 7,9,10,sbs)?

According to the schedule on the SBS website, the live coverage will begin on SBS1 at 2:00am each morning, or pushed back to 3:00am when the Ashes are on, then there will be a 15 minute highlights package at 7:15am each morning on SBS1, and a half hour highlights package at 6:00pm each night on SBS2.

Thinks you can if those channels are coming through the foxtel box....

....but why worry with Foxtel IQ (extra per month) when a cheap hard drive can do the same for nothing?
Love my HD

...and then of course you have other products such as beyonwiz etc also doing same.

cheers

Sorry about not replying earlier, but yes you can record all of the channels except for the on Demand programs(which I guess also includes the Box Office movies and Main Events).

You can also pick up the HD shows such as Tens "One"and SBS2, ABC 2.

I am not sure yet about picking up the multi channels that will be part of the free to air channels(Multi Ch 7 and 9).

The best part of IQ is that you miss seeing so many ads, the worst part is that the stations are unable to start and finish their programs at the scheduled times so you have to keep recording the programs that follow the one you want to watch as you need it to see the ending.

Thanks for the replies - think I'm sold on IQ now for $100 installation and $10 a month, it's not too bad. Now, to get it installed before the championships start, oh - and convince mrbriz it's a good idea :)

Depending on if you already have Foxtel, you can get free installation(may have to take up Platinum package or something similar).

I have 4 Foxtel IQ2 boxes in the house, it limits the arguments about who watches what, when there is something that everyone wants to watch they pile into our room.

Wow...Steve...how much do you pay extra for each box plus extra for each IQ enabled?...just want to make a comparison.

The Beyonwiz product above is an alternative to Tivo and is also compatible with ICE-TV ...the latter also has its own 'box' (or PVR...personal video recorder).
The advantages of these (ICE-TV) over IQ as I understand is that you can program remotely, i.e. from phone or internet/PC.
ICE-TV subscription is only $99 per annum.

Got to get one of these options soon to go with HD, but I don't want to give Foxtel more $$...as it is we can't find much worthwhile to watch on a regular basis and is only really useful to me for the ocassional cricket in SA etc...not really a good reason.

cheers

Having an extra IQ box is worth about $20 each, so its not too bad.(remember silence is golden)

If it's important I usually use custom record from the setup menu and add 10 or so minutes instead of recording the next program. You can also add extra minutes to be recorded automatically to programs instead of just the default setting - i use 6 minutes but sometimes that's not even enough. Oh, this is all based on IQ1, not the HD box.

I think the worst part about foxtel is you can spend a whole day just flicking through channels and end up not really watching anything. :)

Ouch $80 + usual fee (>$100?) per month :)

...and I thought I was wasting $60/month on an unnecessary product I don't watch...well really mostly for clear free to air before, which I now get on HD/digital TV

The ICE-TV option is looking good, saw it a Good Guys...wonder if it updates program timing. Surprised IQ doesn't do that, since the times on the screen seem to update to the actual program times.

I like being able to record the EPL matches and then being able to watch them before I go for my morning run, if it looks like a slow game I just speed it up a little and do a replay for the bits I like.(One box is included in the package) so only pay for 3 extra and it is cheaper getting the IQ than having an ordinary box..

Hopefully SBS will be showing sport unlike channel 7's coverage of the Olympics. Less of people sitting behind desks and copius self promoting commercials.

I'm told from a reliable source that SBS's coverage will be the World Feed (hosted from the Sydney Studio) with some interviews with the Aussie athletes scattered throughout the coverage. A very scaled back coverage. It will also flip between SBS One and SBS Two due to the Ashes.

Fox Sports will only have a Daily 1hr highlights program played out throughout the day.

Not quite what we've had over the last few championships (Edmonton in 01 and Paris in 03 were great).

This is one of the topics I hope the I.T people can restore.

There was some debate about the bona fide of the women's 800 mtrs Champ. This appears to be going to take a long time to finalise.

Aussie, Collis Birmingham made it through to the 5000mtrs final. Hopefully his tactics will be better, sitting and kicking on the last lap saw him a lucky loser to get to the final. Will have to do a massive P.B to get amongst them.

Steve Hooker through to the final in the Pole Vault, though injured.

Our two long jumpers through to the final. Good chance of a medal.

Currently our two 50km racewalkers are doing well. Still a couple hours left. SBS2 is currently showing the walk.
