Hey guys,

While the map indicates that drinks stations are about every 2.5k, I'm wondering if anyone knows what is being offered?  Just water?  Powerade?  Gels?

I'm just training to meet the conditions and need to know what to get my body used to...

Thanks!

Mego.

Hey Mego,

Welcome to CR.

For the first half of the race it is Gatorade and water. From about the 22k mark roughly every 2nd aid station has gels, water, gatorade. They sometimes have a big jar of jelly beans, snakes etc as well.

If you take you own gels for the first half of the race and then have your second last one before the aid station where they are going to be and grab 1-2 as you go through. That way when you come to the next aid station you will be able to have a Gel and grab the water without stopping to much. If you have to grab a gel and water it may slow you down.

I always liked to keep 1-2 on me in case there were none left when I cam to the aid station. It happens when you are BOTP runner like me. :-)

Good luck and Enjoy it.

Cheers
Andrew

Go to the marathon website and navigate to FAQ's - there is a table there that shows exactly what distances the stations are located and what will be offerred.

Accroding to the information, there will be both GU Sports drink and GU gels on offer. The first gels will be at 20.8 km if the information is correct.

I have followed up with an email to the organisers asking what flavours of drink will be available. I have been told that there will be two flavours available but which ones has not yet been decided. I am told that all flavours of GU gels will be available.

G'day all

We are currently reviewing our refreshments on course to ensure we are compliant with IAAF regulations, we will have a new map up there in the next week. But in summary we will have a refreshment station every 5km which will stock water, gu gel, gu drink (although the gu gel will not be at all of these stations). On the alternate stations there will be water only. So we will in effect have some form of refeshment available approximately every 2.5km in the marathon and half.

The map will be pretty easy to read so keep your eyes peeled on the website.

In my experience of last years'  race there was no sports drink to be found until the second half of the race as they had run out. There were also very few gels, although there were plenty right near the end (and jelly beans). I would advise making your own arrangements if you want energy near the start of the race.

I really do hope the lessons of last year have been learned and you will absolutely have electrolyte drinks every 5km.
