I'm on my second pair of Salomon XT wings as the first pair was replaced last year as the laces snapped and there weren’t any replacement laces in the country. That was fine with me as they had only travelled maybe 200km.
The replacement pair I didn’t use due to a couple of reasons one being if I again broke laces 2 hrs from home I would have been a bit well annoyed again as you still couldn’t buy them on there own.
But anyway times are tough so I stated wearing the second pair from the start of the year on and off (rotating with road shoes) and say 200 to 300km again worn to the point of broken laces. And of course I got another pair the week before to wear in ready as a replacement for a 100M so feeling a little scared again.
Is it just me or has anyone else had the same troubles?

I also use XT Wings. Both my pairs have broken laces but both were right at the end of their lifespan. I actually took one pair back to the shop i bought them from and they gave me a brand new pair, even though the old ones probably only had one more race in them.

Incidentally the latest ones I have seem to have slightly different 'eyes' that the laces go through - only time will tell if they are better or worse.

I reckon if they are newish and there is no sign of wear on the laces they should be good.

Definitely return them, I have been told by the Salomon Rep that they shouldn't break because they are Kevlar.

I have 2 pairs, Wings and Ultras, and the Ultra's are now about 10 months old and have had a lot of wear, probably about 800kms, with no lace issues at all, but they do slip and need re-tightening during a long run which is really annoying, but I have very narrow feet and have to do all laces up quite tightly anyway. I too voiced this concern because I don't like these type of laces and prefer to replace them with normal laces, which you can't in Salomons.

Hopefully with this sort of feedback Salomon will do what Merrell have done and make it possible to replace the "quick" lightweight laces with trustworthy normal laces, making an otherwise awesome brand of shoes even better :D

All the reps and sales staff I've met say there's nothing wrong with them but that could be just spiel. They also don't put them through their paces...most get worn around town! So I've been reluctnat to purchase as it's such an obvious (poor) design issue

I do value what these guys have to say in this instance, and I know reps out there who run, in fact I ran a good deal of the NF100 with the Teva Rep last year,
and I know the Salomon rep does events too. So even thought they've said they shouldn't break but they have for some, this doesn't mean we shouldn't give them feedback, because they do listen to what runners have to say, and they want us in their shoes and are willing to get their shoes out there on regular middle of the bunch runners like myself, so I am grateful to them for this, and willing to give them honest feedback as a result, which they appreciate. It can only mean they make a better product!

Have you seen the Salomon wings xt lace kit? Makes more sense than buying a new pair of shoes :D

I jinxed myself! :D

At the end of the Woodford to Glenbrook today I had but a mere fiber of lace remaining holding my laces together on my Wings

Thanks for the link sailaway....I will be needing it!

Hey Bethany, I had the problem that the lace was stitched into the eyelet.... so when the lace broke, we couldn't remove it easily without the stitching coming undone. It was my 6th pair of Salomons .... love the shoe, never had a problem before so haven't made an issue of it.
