Hi coolrunners, I just completed the Run Melbourne Half on Sunday (1:46:32 ). I am so pumped I want to do the Sandy Point Half which is in 6 weeks time ( approx ). Is it to soon? I did a short slow recovery run of 3klms Tuesday and felt OK. Any advice??

Go for it Wez. Give yourself an easy week, ramp it up over the next few and you will be ready for Sandy Point.

Good luck :D

I ran both last year as part of my lead-up to melbourne marathon and handled them both well. You haven't given a lot of info in relation to just how new a runner you are, but clearly you are quite capable given the time you ran on Sunday (congrats!). Assuming you are able to handle the training load with little recovery from last Sunday, then go for it.

HI marieclaire, I have been running on and off for twenty years or so, but sat on my bum for the last 5. Did triathlons and duathlons in my 30s for about 6 yearswith good results. Did 4 half ironmans in that time. But now i'm 45, and well i'm not 30 anymore. Having said that I feel as fit as I ever have so thats a great thing. Are you doing Sandy Point this year? Have you done a full Mara?

Wez.

Yeh! Just do it.Good advice fromLoubee and six weeks is a lifetime to recover and race again. Most people do not race often enough.Don't know why,it is the best form of training. :D
Good luck.

Hi Wez. Why do feel as if running another 1/2 in 6 weeks may be too soon?

Michael.

Hi Michael, just putting it out there. It's been a number of years since my last fitness spurt and I don't know if 6 weeks is too close, but I reckon I can do it and so does everyone who has answered my post, so i'm gunna do it.

Well Wez, now I'm 60, and I'm not 45 any more. and I would certainly do them both. Maybe another one in between if there was one on the calendar.

Jimboy is (as always) on the mark. Most people don't race often enough. They try to optimise their training for one big race in a year, forgetting that a whole bunch of 10k fun funs would give enormous advantages.

Race hard, race often.

Or to give you the potted version of my answer (the 'take home message'): "YES".

Hi Wez, I am doing Sandy Point then Melb Half and I think they are about 6 weeks apart, go for it - like everyone else has said! We have a training run organised on the 12th July at Sandy, check SPH thread for details, you would be most welcome. Good luck with it and well done on last Sunday. K
