Hey all

just wondering if anyone else gets ear infections?

And what are peoples thoughts on running with ear infections?

My last, present one started with no warning. Went for a hill run last Wednesday and woke up 1am Thursday and it felt like i was passing a football out my right ear..... :vava:

haven't run since.....

There's no pain today so was planning to go for a 10ker...

Thanks

Graham

Hi Rio

Infections ussually come with fever isnt it? When you rest and take the antibaiotics your doctor prescribes, you'll get well and do your sual runs.

Had an ear infection from swimming in an indoor pool months ago while I was a lil bit rundown, however after resting and getting well I am back to running.

Hi Rio228

This is one area I have too much experience! Have had ear problems since a baby and have had to have a grommet (usually only for kids) in my ear for the last five years - can't survive without it or a some sort of release. My 2nd last infection was two weeks before a 10km hill to harbour race and it was nasty, I get vertigo with the infection. I ran the race and nearly collapsed, bad decision by me to run, and ended up exhausted.

My grommet came out after my last infection and thankfully for me (my case is unique) I have a nice hole in my eardrum which acts like a natural grommet. I am hoping it doesn't close over, otherwise more surgery yuk!

I think you need to listen to your body, if it is a mild infection I can run but if it is severe I have to take time out. I will not make the mistake of running when so sick again...not good for tyour health. It wont hurt to have a couple of days off rather than cause more problems by stubornly continuing.

Good luck with the ear!
