Hi all,
I entered the City to Surf half marathon today  :vava:: and created a new team - CoolRunners!

I know some people join work teams etc, but if you don't, feel free to join this one.

There are prizes etc. The one we might be in the running for is greatest no. of ks. This is judged on team size as well, and as quite a few CRs will be doing the marathon, it will probably get us up above the corporate teams etc who will mostly be in 12ks or 4ks. I don't know what the prizes are but if we do get anything, and it can't be divided up, then I'll do a public draw at a Coolrunners 5k to pick the winner (very official I know!)

We can also follow stats like number of entrants, total no of ks etc which would be fun to follow.

Just to clarify, if you do want to join, the name/ spelling is CoolRunners (no spaces).

Cheers,
Rosie

Great idea Rosie!  I volunteered to be my company's team captain this year, so I will have to be a Coolrunner team member in spirit only.

I logged in again as team captain and looked... I can add team members, but then I have to put in all their details including dob, address, credit card payment details... :0. There doesn't seem to be an option to add people who have already signed up. Let us know how you go with emailing them TR, and I'll post if you show up in the team list online.

Hiya turtle-runner,
Yes, you've been added. The other people (in case anyone else wants to check) are R.A. and D.P.

Team CoolRunners is now running 147.7 ks.

OK, now I know I'll enter myself (42k), my wife and 2 kids (4k each). Normally work pay for team entries, but they wimped out for the marathon distance...

Vurt and I will be over for the 3rd year in a row and I can't decide what to enter. I want to do the half but realistically I should do the 12k. Sigh....

That is really stingy of them...there would only be a few marathon entries anyway surely. Sheeesh.

Ok, I have entered the Marathon under the coolrunners team, will continue my long runs from Darlington on Saturdays but may have to get some hard surface running in as the Perth marathon killed my feet.

I just got this reminder as a team captain, and thought it was worth reminding everyone about:

Every paid registration for the Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ processed on or before Sunday 19th July will receive a 5% Coles discount card valid in all Coles stores across a specified 6 week period. See here for full details http://www.citytosur...rd_promotion.pm

Worth getting in early for this (well, if you are the one that does the weekly food shop :vava: )

Thanks for the reminder Rosie!  But as I have only just started running again I am going to wait a little while more (early August) before I register for the half - this week has been very light/recovery type training, I want to see how the body is going to cope with harder stuff in the next few weeks.  When I do join, it will be certainly as part of the team CoolRunners!

hi, guys! haven't been here for a while, and i am so enjoying the spirit! haven't done a lot of running since my 10k bridges last april, so was hesitant to sign up, but i've committed myself to doing the 12k for city to surf this year. seems like all of you are full on and i'm feeling a little intimidated, so i think i'll go on lurking in the community for a while longer as i just hope to go the distance and am not really aiming for any particular time. is there such a thing as a slacker runner?

good luck to all entering the longer distances!

how does one register apart from on-line? mean to pay up and put my money where my mouth is, that way i can't talk myself out of it!  :)

1. Hiya Smartybear,
I think you can get entry forms from COles and post them off. I've seen posters at my local Coles.

I can emphathise with you feeling intimidated by all the running chat on here - I can feel the same as it seems that so many people are running marathons and training almost everyday. But there will also be someone running further, and there will be people who will be so impressed that you ran the bridges. It sounds a bit shallow, but I find it also helps to share some of your running stories with non-runners, who often say stuff like "oh my god, I couldn't run to catch a bus!".
But I've also had nothing but encouragement from other runners, even though most are running more than me.

2. Now Kilee has entered, Team CoolRunners is now running 232.1ks!

My work has said they will pay for my C2S entry even though I'm leaving! Yay - I only asked on a whim so guess that whim paid off!

Means I'll have to be part of GESB though and not the CR team :)

If I run I'll join the CR team. I have surgery coming up and I won't know the dates until closer, its likely to be around the end of august or start of sept - hoping its the latter!

Smartybear - I'll just be aiming to finish, I'm so not a serious runner you have no idea :) I do it to keep my weight under control and because its kinda fun. No great athletic purpose or anything.

bit cool that we have our own proper race thread now!!

yeah, my C2S goal is to finish as well. i want a medallion.

hi, kermc! we're probably in the same boat - I remember you finishing the Bridges 4 minutes ahead of me and it was our 1st 10k. pretty sure you've been running more than me since then!  :D i do it for the same reasons as you do, and because it feels great to know that I'm doing something I'd never even dreamed of doing such a short time ago. This time last year, I was about 20 kilos heavier than I am now, so you get the picture.

pretty envious of everyone who does running full on, but i've opted not to push so hard mainly because i fear for my knees and but also because it'll probably stop being fun for me if i take it too seriously. but rosie is right - when i'm with my non-running friends i realize that even if i don't do one fourth of what people do here running-wise, compared to the general population, what i can do is pretty darn awesome already.  :)

happy running, everyone!

Ah, sorry guys, I just tried to enter for C2S marathon and it says you have to be 18 years old. I'm 47 so I guess that rules me out! :)

Just kidding - I'm in for team Coolrunners and will register the rest of the tribe when they work out what they want to do...

Hi there! I've just taken up running this year and this will be my first marathon...merely hoping to make it to the end alive! Did the Darling Half in 1hr 45 and Perth half in 1hr 48 so I appear to be getting worse??!! Have never posted before but have been an avid follower of the posts and think you are all awesome - so committed and motivated I'm hoping some of it rubs off??!! I have entered myself and my husband (doing the half) under the CoolRunners team (well have emailed in the request anyway).... hope to meet up with some of you along the way!

Nice to meet you  B)

BTW I would say your nickname is inappropriate - you clearly do know what you are doing to run a half in those times! Took me 2 years to get to a time like that  :)

Team coolrunners is now running 274.3ks. This includes Geoffa but noidea, you and your husband haven't been added yet. I'll let you know when you are.

Noidea, you are doing a great job! Good luck on the marathon. Hope you can come along to the brunch/ lunch on the day before :)

thanks guys! already feeling more motivated! sorry couldn't find the post about the breakfast... where and when? Would be very keen to join you but might struggle with three kids under 7 and a husband in full triathlon training mode!!

Is anyone planning any long runs for this weekend??

Those numbers keep racking up! Noidea, you and your husband are now registered, bringing our team total to 337.60 km!
My long runs won't be in your league, but have a look at the C2S marathon and half marathon threads. If you go into the Perth C2S forum, you'll find it there + the thread about the brunch.
