I ran my first half at gold coast and was really happy with how i went. However, since then i have only run once (last friday) as have been sick with the flu!

Am hoping i will be able to start training again this weekend but its now only 5 weeks till my next Half (brisbane) and im worried that ive lost fitness in not training for 2 weeks. Im also unsure as to where to start from now? Do i pick up again to the point i was at 5 weeks out from Gold Coast and do the same i was doing then?

Im just confused as to where to start again now- any advice much appreciated!!

You shouldn't have lost too much fitness but you may be a bit slower while recovering. It's a bit hard to say what you should continue without knowing what you were doing but I generally I would resume at half to 2/3rds the mileage you were doing before heading back into a full week. You might want to leave your long run until next weekend and do some shorter runs while you get back into it.

Hopefully someone with more experience than me will give you some more help. Good luck with your next half :vava: .

As said above you will not of lost much fitness or speed.
As long as you are feeling fully recovered you do not need all the long stuff you just need to work on keeping fit.
Maybe have a look at Hal Higdon's site.
Simply use the ideas in the link above and convert to a Half Marathon.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!!

Prior to tapering for the last half i was doing 1 speed session, 1 long run on the weekend (longest run i did was 25kms but they were generally around 17km) and 2 shorter runs of around 8km x 2 or another speed session thrown in instead of one of the shorer runs.

I was thinking if i can run this weekend (still coughing at present!) then doing perhaps a 10km or so, then speed session on tuesday and another shortish run next week before bigger long run next weekend?

Thanks too Brick, i will check out that link you gave me now!

Hi Hieds,

We're in the same boat, I ran my first half at GC and really can't wait for my second in Brisbane.

I really don't have a lot of time to train between now and then (my work has just entered a 2 month budgeting phase), so I am hoping for the best with only a couple of runs a week.

I'm sure you wont loose too much, I sprained my ankle about 3 months before the GC and could not run for about 2 weeks. I did one week after that where I didn't do any speed or hills sessions, just 2 or 3 mid size runs (I think I was running about 8 - 12kms) and the following week I felt like I was right back where I left off.

I hope you get over your cold soon so you can feel well prepared. We'll probably only get a couple of weeks in and its time to taper again!
