I am yet to see the official results but Steve Moneghetti this morning broke the 10km WR for his age group, 45 - 50 yrs at the Launceston Ten.
His time was 29:59.

Great runner, great bloke, great run!
I guess that answers victoralias' question. Old blokes CAN run sustainable 3min kilometres. They just need to be as talented as Mona.

I was there!
I was helping at the drinks station and also organised the bagpipers at the turn.
Managed to give Mona a cheer as he sped past us.......he wasn't interested in taking a drink!
After early rain it cleared up and was fine for the bulk of the race. The stragglers caught a late shower but Mona would have been well and truly finished by then.

I was lucky enough to be in a run with Monnas last year. Unfortunately, he was in my age division which didn't help. To watch such a talented individual run was fantastic. Mind you, he use to run 3 min k's for 42.2k so 10k must be easy for this champion.
Well done, we salute you!

Wow, what a cracking run!!! Great stuff.
runbike, you must be thinking of Molly, not Mona

I reckon it's great that elite runners keep running after their elite careers, to give a marker to what is the elite level for older runners.
Not many do, but Moners does WR's on limited training.
What a legend.

This makes Mona all the more impressive if you ask me. I didn't get to see it (couldn't keep up!) but by all accounts his running back and forth at the Gold Coast to gather the stragglers of on his 3 hour bus was something to behold.
He truly is something special and I'm one who's commented in the past (not here) that he never really figured on the world stage as far as marathon running, but I was talking through my arse at the time!
Hope you've recovered well from St Lucia mate.
