Hi Runners,

I thought I would pass on this info I received after asking Transperth about services to get participants to the city early enough for the Half & Full Marathon, after seeing in the Sunday Paper they are putting on extra trains for the 12km start.
Seems those of us needing to get to the city early will need lifts or parking, so saying that if any organisers are out there reading this - any suggestions on where we can park and not pay a fortune in parking?

Reply Received from Transperth
Thank you for your enquiry. All Transperth bus services will be operating on a normal
Sunday/Public Holiday timetable and there will be no extra services operating before the
start of the Half Marathon. The first train services will be operating as follows,
unfortunately there will be no services arriving in the city before 6am:

Fremantle Line - stopping all stations, departing Fremantle at 7:00am and arriving at Perth
at 7:28am.
Mandurah Line - stopping all stations, departing Mandurah at 6:19am, depending on where you
would want to park this service will depart Murdoch at 6:54am and Bull Creek at 6:57am, and
will arrive at Perth Underground at 7:09am.

Kind Regards,
Chris

Bugger! I was planning on getting the train in but forgot it would be a Sunday timetable. Thanks for posting this Turtle Runner.

Yes it's a conundrum  :)
Will probably involve my better half dropping me off at the crack of dawn.

mmmm we haven't quite worked that out either.  Especially given that in our household we have 1 doing the marathon, 1 doing the 1/2 and the other doing the 12km.  All very different start times.  I do work in West Perth with parking but not sure of the road closures.

It was too good to be true!  My better half will drop me at the crack of dawn in the city and I will park a car at City Beach the night before, with some clothing, so that I can stay as long as I want. :)

this is what we are going to do too, but the train in would have been so so easy. I sent an email to c2s asking them to ask transperth to start the trains early but I know there is buckley's of that happening.

I am intrigued about the getting to City Beach after I have dropped my husband, because I am unable to run this year, but my husband is, so I am on drop off/pick up hold the clothes duty for the first time ever.  I was approaching the Boulevard yesterday and the  it says the coast rd will be closed from 3am, so was wondering how I would get to pick him up, but I guess we will have to do a car drop also the night before which I am slightly uncomfortable with, but is there any other way round this?

For what its worth I have left my car at City Beach the night before the last couple of years no problem - there's more security down there that night than a papal visit. I usually chuck my bike on the back of the car and ride home - last minute cross training!!

You could get yourself one of these.

Now double checked all routes and looks like I will still be able to get to the Floreat car parks which is where we like to park due to the easier exit.... Just realised we can't leave a car anyway as we need one of our children to take another to soccer that morning as well..... very complicated being the spectator I can tell you, can't wait to get back running!!

Wasn't one of those stolen in Perth a few years ago and driven into the city?

I haven't worked out my logistics yet, but I will probably drive into the city (from Swanbourne), park at the Mount Hospital early and walk in to the start. I may be able to give someone a lift in? I'll let you know when I know...

Regards

I just want to say that everyone should be skeptical about the trains stopping all stops.  I believed them two years ago... but they put on a long train (makes sense lots of people) on the fremantle line and therefore it  didn't stop at grant and loch street stations.  Left a lot of us hanging and scrambling to find last minute rides into the city.

For those of us who were thinking of leaving a car parked overnight at City Beach or Floreat Beach (I emailed to check and that one too will be closed!), if you want to leave soon after the event you better think again as all those carparks will be closed until 2pm!!!!!  Looks like my OH will be on drop-in and pick-up duty! :)

seriously?? so we can't get a train into the marathon start and can't get a car out of the carpark before 2pm?

edit - I had a look at the map for the helston ave reserve....that is going to be a nasty little walk following the marathon :)

the rest of the family were going to do the 4km run but to be honest its all looking like its in the too hard basket and just getting me there and back will be a big enough challenge. bit of a shame but I can see the new restrictions have to be the way they are due to the course changes.
