Then if I can still walk
I have also said out loud that I would attempt a small triathlon this coming summer - so some bike training and swimming is going to be required!!!
Any training buddies are more than welcome!!!

But really I just want to do some short stuff
TR why not have a laugh and enter the Pink triathlon. I did this last year and it was a hoot so will do it again although it certainly didn't make me want to run out and take up the sport. I did the 300m swim/10k ride/3k run.

After losing 30kg through running, i gotta keep running as my addiction to beer and food will lead me to just put it all back on

1. Switch to the Half in Melbourne so I can have some fun as well and kick back a bit between now and then.
2. Work on improving my 10km and Half speed dramatically over the next 12+ months
3. Lose the extra few kilos (that love me too much to go away) for good.
4. (the big one) Refrain from running a marathon until I know my expected finish time is 3.45.
The taper really makes you stop and think about stuff. Dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing.

100 mile Waterous race at Dwellingup on Sept 26, then Rotto Marathon in Oct, then 100 mile GNW race in NSW on Nov 14, then 47k 6 Inch trail race at Dwellingup in late December.
January I'm going to cut it back...a month of no long runs over 20km...a summer holiday

Surprisingly (to me) I still fancy a run and will consider doing the Freo half if my uterus hasn't fallen out.
Also looking forward to running a 10k like the Freo fun run.
But, I have this secret hankering to do a trail run and am trying to convince hubby that I need to go down to Nannup and run that bit of trail going to Jarrahwood (? I think)
I think I want to try King of the mountain next year.

I dunno about marathons, I am finding the amount of training required excessive but I do like the aura of the event. I too would like to beat George W Bush's marathon time someday :-)

Next year - maybe Comrades??? My goal, however, is to one day run the C2S 12k in under my age, so under 48 minutes next year!!!! Or under 49 the year after, or under 50 the year after and so on. I'll have to start actually running faster now.
Good luck tomorrow to everyone...

There i've said it now.... so i WILL hold myself to it! Maybe a 15km as a starting point?? Just looked at the WAMC timetable and there is Deepwater point in November.
Then maaaybe next year i will have built up the endurance ( and confidence) to tackle a half.

Serena,
Swith to the half..no,no,no.....we have the Freo half in September if you want some 'fun', which fits in nicely with the ramp up for the Melbourne Marathon...after tomorrow you'll change your mind..we'll have you running 3:45 in Melbourne..it'll just mean putting your life on hold for a few months...I'll be having a quite week after the C-2-S marathon and then going hard for Melbourne and Rotto...keep running bk

For me its a change of scenery, I'm going to get into some trail running... did a lot of my training forC2S in Scotland earlier this year and it was so nice to be out in the countryside. Plus I'm doing the anaconda run in Nov so should be good prep for that - anyone else heading down to Augusta for it?
Hi Thomcat are you in a team or individual??? I will be there in support only

Just wondering what would be a good weekly workout for those not training for an event but wish to keep their fitness up?
I also realised that moving our rest day to after our long runs could of been a bad move, as we never really got a chance to run with fatigued legs.
Still enjoying the Buzz of it all, get to share it with work colleagues as I had a RDO today.

I'm feeling a little more human today. How many times have I heard how much a marathon takes out of you yet I'm still surprised at how I felt yesterday. I had trouble with my 2nd toe and don't think it would fit in a shoe for a few more days. Aim to run sat or sun.
I'm hoping to work on a monthly program with long runs building 24; 26; 28 and 30 repeat. The hardest part of the marathon is building the base, now I have it I do not want to lose it. Anyway will leave it to the coach to write and hope the family don't notice I'm still doing 3hr runs!

YES! very short gentle jog yesterday! Obviously, I could've gone harder in the second half if it wasn't for the fact that I nearly died outside Challenge Stadium. Planning for a gentle 6km today, as I still haven't picked up my car from the city!! Look out for a crumpled mess on Riverside Drive around lunchtime. I might even wear my finisher's t-shirt to show off a bit.

My experience has been that when this happens the runner is likely to be disappointed as they get injured or lose enthusiasm for the event.
My suggestions set your target race, look at the other races and training that you need to do to reach your goal, share your journey with a friend or friends to make the journey more interesting.

Yes, very true; and do some shorter races to spice things and and get some speed.

I am hoping to do the Freo Half and then will have a couple of easy weeks before resuming training for some shorter races to finish the year. Like Loubee I am going to try and keep my long runs from 18-30km on a rotating basis in my future training plans as well as working on regaining a bit of speed!

Comrades, love to one day Geoffa, but next year may be too soon to leave the missus with 2 small kids.
I ran 4km last night, believe its good to do a 3k the next day to iron out the spots. It hurt almost as much as the marathon!
Just signed up for the Freo Half last night and doing the run leg of Anaconda this year. Definitely want to have a crack at sub-3 next year, and would love to do GORM again and Busso Half-Ironman intrigues me, BUT currently planning to be in Europe April/May so looking at these great options like Rotterdam or the Aalborg Brutal Marathon (I just cant get past the name, its fantastic) or these obscure Italian marathons. My wife thinks its a holiday but its really a marathon tour. The other goal is to do 10Ms before I'm 40 - 3 down, 7 to go (in 22 months). 22 divided by 7 = Pi. Go figure. Probably humble Pi.

I think I might get things thrown at me from West Perth andCottosloe
All going well I will be doing Fremantle Half - maybe not in a PB though, (Perth Half was fast and going to be tough to beat - maybe they got the distance wrong???)

now that the Perth and City 2 surf Marathons are done, and I got some tv time in the city to surf Marathon...I'm supposed to be helping WAMC at the Freo half, although I keep thinking I should try and get out of it, and race it instead, but figure I'd be better off giving the Freo Half a miss for the first time since 2002...as I need a break from longish races before Melbourne...but then again looking forward to the return to the old course, and then there is my 6 year streak since 2003... maybe I should keep it going aim for 10 in a row...;
2003;1hr 43 2004; 1hr 47 2005; 1hr 41 2006; 1hr 44 2007; 2hr 11 2008; 1hr 55
Not sure what to do there big dilemma been bugging me for weeks...
Tried jogging at the AK reserve new track this arvo in the drizzle, ok, but one of my quads was a bit sore, and still having trouble getting down stairs but hope to be back into it tomorrow...

Evening Geoffa,
I did a 10k today and my left calf was not happy (putting it mildly!) ...I'll be resting tomorrow and will see how its holding up Friday..if all is well the 34K will be leaving from Hillarys car park (7am) this Sunday and then either going north (to burns beach) or south (to swanbourne) depending on the wind conditions..Trailblaser is also keen...and I may see if the jockster is keen...I'll confirm Friday evening....keep running. bk.

Don't know what to enter next, but I'm keeping up the running,
I've run a few 5ks and I'm doing 7ks tomorrow morning since the marathon, would love to have a program.
I might look at joining a club, which one would be closest to Lesmurdie.

I look forward to it if it happens. I'd have to get a leave pass on Fathers' Day, surely? Ran a slow 6km yesterday and just ran a "fast" 12km (which means I was huffing and puffing the whole way.) Slight twinge in left calf as well - must be due to the camber of the C2S roads. If we run down to Swanbourne, I can say Hi to my kids and get my Fathers' Day obligations out of the way and have a run as well. Not that I can make it, but are you running hills on Saturdays as well in the near future?
BTW, who won the beer bet?

Evening Geoffa, I'm on for Sunday..Hillarys car park next to the amusements..I'll be there for a 7am KO..and you're right it is Fathers day so there won't be a problem with getting a pass..we'll decide on the morning about direction i.e North or South..Only certainty will be pancakes at the end....I'm aiming to repeat this route with the NSRG group the following Sunday and then a hills run the following Saturday..(Brooking road 3 times for a very hilly 34k will be the go..you gotta love those hills!) At the moment my calf is still 'niggling' but my mate 'Big Paul' is also running and he's on for Melbourne as well so you'll be guaranteed some company if I drop out..keep running, bk

Geoffa, Comrades will sell out this year. Special medal for the World Cup and they are capping entries at 20,000. They got this number in 2000. Registrations is open now for 'comrade' runners (people who have already completed) and then it'll be a free for all soon after that. Check the website www.comrades.com for details.... If you thinking of doing it I'd enter now..it ain't that expensive and you can always decide not to go later. There'll be a good WAMC posse going (great people) and lots of great hill training on Saturday mornings...happy days. I've got my up, down and back-2-back medals so it'll be hard to justify to no1 Wife another go..but funnier things have happened...we can discuss tomorrow...keep running, bk

I have registered for Comrades, after some technical difficulties, with the great Homer going in to bat for me. Now it's just a matter of convincing the family. My aim, having run the 79th & 80th Comrades (with the first back-to-back medal) is to go back for 85th (next year) then the 90th, 95th and the 100th, which will be really big!
I'm good to go Sunday, although we are having a big party tonight for my in-laws 40th's x 2. See you at Hillarys...
Geoffa
