I'm doing this in a team, I'm swimming and running. It'll be my first marathon ! :)
Anyone else based in perth doing this (team or individual)?
I'll be looking for a running partner to train with in the lead up, no other marathons around that time i dont think so might be hard to find someone.

Hi Guiness,

I will be there again this year. We are already booked with flights & accommodation.

I'm not based in Perth but hope you find like minded people to train with.

BussoIM is a fantastic race & it will be my third in a row at Busso this year.

Enjoy the journey & enjoy your day.

Cheers,
AK

AK is not only a Busso veteran but an awesome athlete too!

When I grow up I want to be just like AK.

Balance Tri Club (the best club in Sydney) will have a huge contingent at Busso again this year.

Hopefully work will be kind to me and I can be there too.

Good luck with your training Guiness.

I am doing the run as a team this year - finally, My uncle is swimming, his mate is riding and I am bringing it home. Focusing on trying to go sub 3hrs in the marathon but unfortunately I think I may be starting at around midday so it could be hot.

Guiness, what kind of training/times are you looking at?

Sorry Guinness, I can't help you with training, but maybe you could PM Psycho Chicken? I'm pretty sure she lives in Perth.

I won't be competing this year Guinness, but why don't you contact your local tri club - I'm sure there will be plenty of people in training for this.

AK / KB - I meant veteran in the most respectful/admiring way possible! I hope Aunty K took it as I intended.

Nate - you're well out of my league! It'll be my first marathon - i'd love to go sub 3:30, but 3:45 is a more realistic aim. I found a marathon program on the melbourne marathon site that I like, will plan to do that, and add swimming twice a week for 6 weeks prior. The last big 4 weeks before the taper, I'll do my long run in the afternoon after a swim in the morning.

Suzy / Muz - thanks for the suggestions, a tri club is probably a good idea - so far I've always done it on my own - but the training runs are a bit long this time to face it alone.

Absolutely B) not that easily offended guinness.
Actually proud of my age & my achievements to date.

I'm very excited about coming to Busso again. I can't wait for the training to start, just gotta get this Sunday's little race outta the way, recover & let the training program start again.

Cheers!

Hey Guiness,

A few of us who are doing the C2S marathon as our first are planning on being in teams for Busso IM. I am running with my partner who is swimming and riding, another is swimming and running with her partner riding and another (Turtle Runner) is doing the run in a team of 3.

Not sure what our program is going to be between C2S and IM but keep in touch and maybe it will work out for us to do some training runs together. Mind you your pace is alot faster than us currently.

thanks kilee, that's great that there's some more CRs doing busso!
Good luck with the C2S marathon - for all the first timers! very impressive - a first marathon on a hilly course!
would be good to do a group long run sometime - i imagine it breaks up the monotony nicely.
btw - pfft i'm bloody slow on long runs, i just hope i can keep up! :)

Well as we all know my C2S effort was abismal ;)

so now I am definitely in for the Busso IM as a team. My partner Trev is swimming and cycling and I will be attempting my 2nd marathon....never know I may even run this one

So who has actually entered????

I am too!!!!

I was training for my first marathon for the C2S, but got a suspected foot stress fracture that turned out to be a hidden gangloin, as I live fairly remote, took 4 weeks to sort this out.

Anyway am busting to get back into training after I get over this bloody chest and ear infection (have had a really crap month) Hope I have not lost too much fitness, was up to 30km runs 5 weeks ago before all went down hill.

My first marathon will now be this one, as part of a team, and we have entered, under the name Wayne Pech from Gnowangerup.

I have no running partners here either, just my dog.

Was hoping to have a marathon race under my belt, but will have to blunder through this as my first.

Am scared, but extremely excited as well. ;)

As I said this will be my first, so am aiming to finish well in about 4 1/2 hrs.

Cheers

M

Awesome madrunner - that was my expected time in the C2S before all went pear shaped so will definitely be aiming for that here.

Last year we watched the IM and it was really hot so make sure you run in the middle of the day when the weather warms up to get used to the heat. I tried to take our dog on a run once I ended up cutting it short and basically dragged him home

Ok, its 11 weeks to go. You are either doing the whole lot as an individual which, aside from making you completely mad, means you are into some serious swim, cycling and running efforts.

If you have entered an IMWA team, then you are likely preparing to do one of these. Still a major feat.

So share your stories about how your training is going. Your input gives others strength. We need to hang tough at this stage. No substitute for long training sessions at this stage. Don't forget to enter if you haven't already. Over 900 individuals and over 40 teams already have. Don't risk it! Enter now.

So, come on.....spill!!!

Entered as part of a team this year - I'm running the marathon and want to go sub 3hrs. Haven't started specifically training yet as I am focused on the Dwellingup 100 miler next weekend. My only concern with the IM is that by my calculations I'll most likely be starting the marathon at around 12-1pm so it's likely to be stinking hot which will make things a little tougher.

Looking forward to it.

Yep, im in! I believe there is another thread for this race.

This will be IM No. 6 with Busso No. 3 for me.

My training will not seriously start for another month as I'm running the Sydney Marathon this Sunday. I travel O/S on Wed & on my return from holiday's the training for Busso will commence.

I will keep you posted!

Didn't realise this thread already existed. I'll shut down the one I created for IMWA 09 yesterday.
Sorry about that!! :LMAO: :D

Anyway, while I'm here, am doing the swim and run as well (I have an uber cyclist who posted 4hr38min last year, 2nd fastest team cyclist to Russell Brooks)

Wife registered her IMWA 09 team a couple of days ago. Accomm all sorted at Beachlands.

Big training blocks/ brick session called for now.

I'm gonna put these next 11 weeks on my www.christoonline.com blog in detail.

Hey Christo..Trev here,

thanks for the chat the other day whilst our runs converged briefly..hopefully see you running around the "Vale" more often in future..

Having said that, I've been asked by Shelley Taylor-Smith to join her rotto solo squad training (run in Claremont 3 times a week over 15 weeks), for rotto solo in feb..so unfortunately my running will take the back seat between this and the cycle trianing i need to do for Ironman with Kilee. You're more likely to see Kilee running around the Vale than me.

My lovely wife told some bloke called John in a wheelchair that I was doing the race - I wasn't - anyway I bump into him 2 days later and he says " Awesome that your coming over to do the race and support the foundation" .... So with little notice or prep I am now training for Busso number 3, last 1 in 2005.
Air fares and Bus travel booked
Accomodation yet to be finalised - heard there are a few good park benches near transition - actually think I slept on a couple after the 05 after party.
Entry - will give it a few more weeks to make sure nothing on my old body breaks down.

So to the rest of you if your racing as a team or an individual go to the JMF website and join up to race for the The John Maclean Foundation and help John to help kids in wheelchairs acheive their dreams whether sporting, artistic or acedemic....... Oh yeah
AND GET TO RACE WITH A TRIATHLON LEGEND & the first none American to be inducted into the Hawaii ironman hall of fame....
Yes that would be John not me.

150 & 20 brick session tomorrow........wow yeah I'm back :LMAO:

Nate & Guiness,

Good on you for doing the marathon in the teams. I did it last year and loved it.

The atmosphere is fantastic. Admittedly, I felt like a wee cheat, doing only the marathon in the midst of these fantastic ironman athletes, of all shapes and sizes, but the whole weekend is a buzz. The crowds are really supportive, and some of them are really switched on. As it is a 3 lap course, some will remember you and give specific, encouraging feedback on your form... very encouraging.

Like you have both anticpated, the race is quite different to our normal distance events. Firstly, you dont know what time you are starting - sure, you can have an ETA of your cyclist, but it is only an estimate, so your pre race nutrition/fluid intake needs to be flexible. As for the heat, you will be starting at a warm time of the day. I started my leg at 2pm, and it was 28-29 degrees at the time. It made for a very warm run! It didn't help when the drinks stations occasionally handed out warmish High5 drinks! (That said, I wouldn't dare criticise the volunteers who assist on the course - they do a fantatsic job).

All my training and race times in the 6 months before Busso indicated a 3:10 marathon, but I did a 3:22. The heat definitely takes its toll. I recommend that you 'acclimatise' in November by doing some long slow runs in the afternoons, rather than the mornings we we normally head out. I did this, and had some very harsh experiences, but it definitely helped on the day.

You will love the atmosphere, absolutely brilliant! And, make sure you get out on the course after 6pm to clap the individuals still going. We stayed at Mandalay Caravan Park, and as soon as I had got back, bathed and fuelled up, my wife and I went onto the run course and cheered on each person as they struggled and fought their demons. It is really inspirational. There was one lady, and the poor soul was only on her second lap, and it was obvious that she was not going to make the cut off time, but nevertheless, she kept going... one foot after the other... slowly but surely walking down the k's, and all with a smile. So, walk with them, talk with them, and help them forget the pain.

If I didn't live in Sydney now, I would be there for absolute certain.

I look forward to everyone's stories in the coming months.

Good luck with the training.

Wheats.

I'm a bit worried about my progress at the moment. i'm in a team, where I swim and run. The cyclist will do fine, and I don't want to let him down.
It'll be my first marathon, and after the city to surf HM I've got achilles tendonitis - so I need to have some luck go my way.
At least i got through the freo HM today. It's kinda frustrating though because I was going so well with my preparation up till the city2surf.
Swimming will start first of October, and really some cross training is probably a good thing for me.

Really counting on the crowd support to get me home in the heat, it certainly helped with the busso HIM this year!

Good luck with your training everyone.

Show off!!! and i'm a bit jealous :LMAO: :D

Fun day out although did need to slow a bit near the end of the run, 2 nice little hills back to my place in the last 4km. How goods the weather already, knick and short sleeve jersey only and some tans lines to show and it's only early spring.

Backed up for 100k on Sunday on the "new steed" a little black aero number, which went very fast for very little effort. To quote a mate he said when you ride it, it feels like your cheating.

Nice run at Sydney too Aunty. Like a fine wine you are just getting better with age.

B+ was just checking your profile as I couldn't understand where the tan lines were coming from.....clearly not in Perth :LMAO: I don't think we have seen the sun yet and as I sit in my office and listen to the rediculous gusts of wind I am not looking forward to tonight's training run.

But I suppose it could be worse I could be doing the bike leg and get blown onto the freeway during training...

My training is going well, did a 22km long run last week, clocked up 76km on the whole week, and really feeling my fitness return, and having my feet sorted, am stoked. :LMAO:
Think my team mates training is going well too.
Bloody freezing here still, wish it would warm up to do a bit of training in the heat, as we will be most probably running in it, if spring ever gets to this end of the world. :D
Am very happy at the moment, looking forward to those looooong runs and getting nervous about the day in general, as it is my first race, let alone marathon.

Happy training,

Cheers
M

Thanks Wheats for that insight, invaluable for beginners like me.

B+ - 3 years that is awesome....I know the effects of cancer on people so I am amazed and in awe

Those of us in the west may be required to put on a bit of fake tan before ironman or those in the East will need really good sunny's to fight the impact of the lilly white legs.

9 weeks to go - how's everyone else doing?
I'm trying to build distance on my long runs (24km run tomorrow), and balance that with resting my stupid achilles ...
swimming is going well at this stage though

And then there were 8

weeks to go that is....doesn't seem like very long.

Training seems to be going well for Team KileeTrev (or Team Logic I think we are entered as) I am about to head out for a 13km jog in KP and Sunday morning is a 25km with Turtle Runner along the coast, so if you see us feel free to say hi or beep your horn.

Are there any first time ironmen/women out there doing this one? If so how are you travelling / feeling??? Not having done one of these I am in awe of anyone who even thinks about it yet alone does one...

K.

The dreaded stomach bug has done the rounds in my family so no training for last 5 days for me. Not real happy given that training was minimal to start with, but hey-what the hell best to just get back out there and do something.
Will be much happier when I can fart with confidence again :o

Need to enter next week, just need to get a big session under my belt to know where I am at right now.

Yup, am doing OK, but had a bit of a light week, 3 days off due to school holidays, but still managed a long run 25k last Friday, and doing about the same this Sunday, only a 8km, 10km fast walk and a 10km today, with a 12km tomorrow then the long run.
Have been battling a HUGE blister with new orthitics, but saw orthotics man today, and hopefully that is sorted, as am sore from not running with orthotics - my feet and legs get all out of whack and hurt.

Big week this week, good luck to all with training, not long now. :o

Cheers
