Hi Guys,

I'm Male and am now 28, I'm getting back into my fitness after a knee reconstruction and weight blow-out 9 years ago.

I've often thought of the old days as a teenager when thinking back (but not realising this at the time) that I believed I had a gift. Even though I was really really fit and had an extremly bad diet I could never explain what was happening to me, and I've tried googling but I've been unable to find another instance like it.

It first happened when I was 11, I'd always come in second or third no matter the race. I loved sprinting and long distance from when I was 9yrs+ but wasn't much good at it, but on this day when I was 11, I was coming second in a race (either 1500m or 800m) and I was struggling badly and almost passed out trying to keep up with the leader and about 100m out all of a sudden something would happen and it was as if my legs took over my entire body and as fatigued as I was, I would sprint to the finish line and win the race.

As I got older I got alot fitter\quicker I would win all sprints and even one year I won every event from the 100m Sprint to the 5km run. That 5km run was another instance I was able to use this gift, I was running behind a pack of guys who took Long Distance running very seriously and I was just a football player. I struggled to keep up with the pack and I had never run 5km in an event before, i dont even know if I had ran 5km at once before, but sure enough 100+ meters from the finish line this thing would kick in and and I would sprint past the pack and win the race.

I'm just really intrigued as to what this condition is, obviously there would be a medical explaination for this and I'm sure I wouldnt be alone in the world with this.....I just don't know how to go about finding more out about it.

I hope I've described the scenario well enough, if there are any questions please feel free to ask.

Thanks guys!

the condition is very serious, contagious, and considered untreatable.
get a second opinion anyway.

It is likely to be also genetical, perhaps your parents had both, fast and slow twich fibres.

This condition is common to humans.

I am fairly qualified to suggest this (having listened to my PE teacher on two whole occasions), and it may be something to do with you having a very good ATP release thing. Hopefully you still have it! :LMAO:

The ability to "sprint" when fatiqued is 50% mental and 50% physical. Some people have a high tolerance to pain and can block it out and KICK DOWN hard at the end, some people can't. I always try to kick hard at the end, i get up on my toes and if there is enough left in the tank look out. At the recent national xcountry titles i was coming 10th with 400 to go and was close to passing out (or so i thought) seeing the finish had me sprint the last 400 and gain 4 places to 6th. It's mind over matter over vomit factor lol

Same here. I would love to suffer from this condition!

Unfortunately my legs seem to lock into a pace and stubbornly resist all my efforts to sprint at the end.
