Shaved 7 minutes of my time last year which I am wrapped about. 66:48. Never thought I would get that low and now hoping for a sub 65 next year. Not bad for a bloke that is closer to death than birth (46).
I think it is likely they will have the bag situation sorted a little better next year but they won't be able to do anything about the traffic. A walk to Bondi Junction with a pit stop at a local cafe has got to be the way to go next year.
It is a great event and is my favourite. Next year will be my 10th in a row.
The thing I am most proud of is that my wife ran it from the back of the pack and managed a 96 min finish (I posted her problems she had with her breathing in another section). next year she will do even better. My 12 year old son ran a 80 min. Just got to get my dau invloved and it will be a complete family event.

I've been having trouble, but finally just left it going and came back in half an hour and it worked, so maybe keep trying, if you have the patience, and come back and it will work for you too.. it's really frustrating isn't it?

And you have still managed to finish in 733 place in a gun time of 0 seconds, I'd like to see Monas break that.

Yes I agree. Quite a few 'more seasoned' runners have particular grounds to be disappointed by this. 10 year increments mean alot when you get to the 60+y age bracket. They also did not state this on the website either.
Not that it particularly concerns me, but I remember when the age categories went up to 90y too. Now it's just one big 70+ age group.
Why do they change this? The only real reason I can come up with is because it now means they don't have to hand out as many prizes.
Also, if you are part of a team that placed in a category, expect only one team member (the fastest) to get a trophy, unlike previous years where the top 3 team members got something. At least this was the way in the SMH Half this year.
If someone knows why they made these decisions I would love to know the answer!

My guess is that there about about 67,000 people simultaneously trying to look up their own results and those of all their mates... I'll try again in a day or so when the hype subsides. So no Strider results list just yet!
Strangely, though, it was quick and easy to look at my hideous photos.

The way the results have been handled I find very disappointing and frustrating. Hiding readily available information from competitors to try and sell newspapers. Newspaper results you need a magnifying glass to read.
You can't easily find out until days after the race who the womens placegetters were, or the top ten males. A data base that crashes for two days after the results are released, and then they are presented in only 10 year groups.

The race is run as a fund raiser for the Fairfax newspaper business, it is not run for runners.
The organisers know that people will enter the iconic Sydney event so why would they care about age categories, bags etc when they know that 99% of the people who enter are not runners and will not get placed in an age group, it is easier and cheaper to cut down the categories and prizes. This is most likely one of the few fun runs in the world where there is no prize other than a trophy for coming first.
Also I noticed that in the Corporate teams the winning team ran 2 hours and 5 minutes (that gives a time of just over 41 and a half minutes) I find it hard to believe that the 3 members are employees of the same company.

I am beginning to agree, and what a shame and a real sign of the money grabbing society we live in. I wonder how much of the 80 000 x $50 entry fee goes towards grass roots running/athletics. I wonder how much goes to charity (not counting the individual fundraising by entrants). Would think very little, and they can't even spend a bit on prizes/giveaways to entrants.
Still if you think the award categories are bad in the C2S, check the run4fun out! They don't even have age categories or teams in that race. Another money grabbing event.
This is why I much prefer local fun runs put on by either running clubs like your one in the Hills or local community groups run events like the 6FT or Willy 2 Billy put on by/for Bush Firies etc. Unfortunately these are becoming fewer and fewer every year, but at least when I enter I know my money is going towards a worthy cause, community group or grass roots athletics.
Oh and awesome work LL! I hear 80 is the new 60 and you have certainly shown those 'youngies' how to run!

Run4Fun does have age groups, 10 years last year.
All Age category results will be listed online with the overall result listings, there are no prizes for these categories
I'm happy to just get my age place, preferably in 5 year groups.
Run4Fun was the first time last year, so 10 year groups may have been decided on numbers.
But for C2S to change from 5 to 10 year is dopey.
For me it meant 31st instead of 5/6th, at a guess. May have been 3rd or 10th.

No-one's ever made money out of organising fun runs. What they do get is a load of marketing and publicity being associated with an iconic, healthy, feel-good event. And who would begrudge them that?
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about around age categories etc. The only person who is ever aware or cares about who finished 3rd in the 30-39 age category (for example), is the person who finished 3rd in the 30-39 age category.

I help to organise a fun run in the Hills Area, on the basis that it will make some money for the club.
Striders do the same thing every month with their 10km, and even more so with the 6ft track race.
Yes there are added benefits from putting on the runs, but I am pretty sure that Striders and others do not put on the runs in order to break even or make a loss. I would be pretty sure that Fairfax makes money from the C2S, and if they dont I think you would find that there is a big internal transfer of funds for advertising and supply of "staff" to run the event.

I also agree that it's not a run for runners. I was at Bondi last year to see Shelley win. I got better value as a spectator.
Next year my entry fee is going toward more deserving club runs. If I run C2S it will be as a bandit.

No, the person who finished 4th, 5th, 6th and so on in that category all take a keen interest.
As I get older, my placing in my age category is improving, and I keep a keen eye on the results of that category.

I'm normally the last person to say 'well X event obviously makes money', because too many do too often. But of all events....
The City 2 Surf is pulling in around $4 million in entries. It has some massive corporate sponsors who are guaranteed commercial TV exposure. Events NSW is on board. The local businesses en-route at especially at the finish gain patronage on event day, giving them no reason to be against it (and every reason to support it). The event has massive volunteer support for many of the roles that for some events (and many businesses) would otherwise require paid staff. The event is sold-out, and requires comparatively little marketing to do so. The event is hosted by a newspaper, who can throw 'editorial' space at promoting it (ie. the promotion is not necessarily at the loss of advertising dollars).
Even after considering the not insignificant expenses budget - that would also no doubt run to the millions, I struggle to comprehend that the modern-day C2S is not turning a healthy profit for Fairfax.
Not that I have any problem with the above, by the way, (unless it's at the expense of providing a quality event).

He claimed he ran 58 minutes. He said he was expecting 60 minutes. Checked the results his race number is 7605. http://results.live....w...80&Bib=7605
He actually did 68:51 Official time and 66:31 net.
Makes what his wife said even more silly "three minutes quicker and he would be up there with the professionals and get his own bib with his name on it next year Unreal"

Quoting Tom.............................
Just to explain... Some of us were aiming to get a top ten place in our category... But I got 17th and have no clue where I really came....
so I'll just assume I came 1st and that all 16 in front of me where in the older half of the double catergory (hehe)
seriously tho some of my faster friends would have got a medal for 2nd or 3rd if they were in increments of 5
nothing against the race organisers at all. I think $50 is value for money
