I need to find a nice quiet stretch of road to do some serious road cycling training (maybe an hourlong session on Saturday &/or Sunday) .

It would be ideal to have no traffic whatsoever (maybe one car in a blue moon), even less than on Bobbin Head Road or McCarr's Ck Road. Safety for children is the main issue.

Can anyone suggest some long stretches of bitumen in northern sydney that is really really (really) quiet on weekend mornings...?

Thanks in advance.

You don't see too many cars on the road out to West Head. Especially early. You do see lots of cyclists though - like Pitt St on a nice day. I think it is 12-14k from the park entry to West Head, so 24-28k loop. Nice rolling hills through the bush with some nice views. They have recently laid down hot mix, so it is a smooooooth ride.

Thank you. Do you know about Lane Cove River Park?

Hi Frankie,

Yes just got back from West Head myself. I think on that long stretch of road I saw 2 motorbikes and maybe 1 car. It is an absolute cycle mecca in Sydney. Perfect for cyclists. It would depend on how old your children are though and how far you wish to cycle. The views at the other end are fabulous too and I always stop to admire them. You can see Lion Island, Palm Beach and right across to Umina Beach on the central coast.

Spotted Hamburglar this morning who was looking good. I thought I read somewhere that you were injured ?

I have cycled in Lane Cove and it is a just under 10km out and back. Not a bad option in that it is close. It does tend to have a little more traffic especially in this nice weather but you will find the traffic is keeping its eye out for pedestrians and cyclists. When I say more traffic you could expect around 5 cars but every now and then they have a wedding or birthday party on and the traffic is a little more.

Thank you. I think we will try lcrp early on the weekends b4 the traffic gets up. West head may be a bit too far at the moment.

You weren't looking too bad out there yourself! Also saw RaceMikeRace out there. Did you see the nood photo shoot near the park gates? Nearly fell off my bike!

Yes I have been injured, but it has been good for my cycling. Just getting back into the running now.

I didn't see RaceMikeRace but I don't know what he looks like. He might have been one of the hordes that went past us.

No photo shoot spotted !! Males or females before I decide if I should have cycled faster.

It was great to see you out there Hamburglar, how's the riding been lately?

How good is the West Head road now? We made the unfortunate decision to visit Cottage Point afterwards. I seem to do this about once a year, then 12 months later the memories of how painful it is have faded and I think about going again.

EverReadyBunny I was wearing a yellow jersey with grey helmet, but it's hard to tell - everyone looks the same to me in lyrca!
