After years of threatening to take up tri- this year i finally bit the bullet- got a bike etc and today completed my first Olympic Dist Triathlon. It was Ok. felt very good in the swim - but not sure I took the best possible route- couldnt really see where i was going- but felt great. Transition was smoother than Raby Bay and just decided to set my cycling goal of holding cadence at 80-90 rpm ( except for up the big hill) this really helped my ride. unfortunately I dropped my bottle with sports drink in it - so had no fluid or fuel until the run leg- not ideal. felt good on the bike but still found the run pretty tough ( but maybe dehydrated) - I dont know my split times but think th total was somewhere between 2"45- 2:50- but may be out with that.
The muscles of my inner thigh are very sore. My achilles is a bit cranky- Im tired and happy. I actually passed a couple of people on the bike which is a bit of a surprise. And I rested on the tri bars a couple of times-( this is a big deal for me!) will be interested to see the results tomorrow, i suspect the run time will be disappointing. Thanks for listening!

Gees twosheds, another runner turning to triathlons

Just kidding .... well done you! That sounds like a pretty decent time to me. Pity you were dehydrated on the run, I imagine it would be your strongest leg and you would have otherwise made up a fair bit of time and passed lots of people.

So, what's next? HIM? You know you have the endurance ....

Thanks Tesso
HIM definitely on the cards- but will probably give myself 2 years to adapt to the new sports. I think the swim is probably my strongest leg- I certainly didnt feel like a runner -yesterday- will have to practice running off the bike and not losing my water bottle ( tahts a skill too). cycle definitely the worst leg for me atm.
Time was 1:47:19 i dont have much to compare it to- so i guess that becomes the benchmark. My transition felt slightly less ridiculous than Raby Bay.LOL ;)

Today- I have discovered soreness in muscles I didnt know existed- i am sore in the muscles just below my ears ( I think its the sterno cleido mastoid) I am so sore on my inner thighs - my back , evem the stomach muscles are a little tender. Must have done something out there. :D
Twosheds

edited to complain about soreness- explaining why 2 years for HIM might be warranted.
