Depends on what brand of bike you want - check out here for some options/ideas.

As the 2010 models are hitting the "road" at the moment, you might be able to score a 2009 model at a discounted price.

Most bike stores are doing great deals on 2009 models as stated above. I bought a Giant Defy 2 for $700 is a great entry level road bike, I have owned it for 4 months now and have done around 800km on it without any problems.

Check out fortheriders as they will fit you to the bike and are more than helpful with any questions you may have.

Cellbikes.com.au do some pretty good deals.
Having said that, I've never bought from them, I like the support you get from dealing with your local bike shop. As mentioned above there are some good buys to be had on 2009 models at the moment. Try visiting a few bike shops and see whats available.

I've used Cell Bikes and they produce a good quality product and definitely cheaper than your normal bike shop. Unless you're planning on a real top end machine, you'll be hard pressed to find a better deal.

I agree with comments re Cellbikes. I've bought two bikes from them (mountain bike for myself and flat bar road bike for my partner) and quite a lot of parts, and always found them to be good quality and prompt in their delivery.
