After suffering my first DNF of any event at Nepean on the weekend and having withdrawn from the Canberra Half Iron Man, I am looking for the next possible challenge before the weather gets cold.

Is anyone contemplating competing in the Australian Long Course Triathlon Championships? Sounds like a fantastic weekend away for the Fam, with plenty of events to choose from.

I am in. It's two weeks after Geelong so fingers crossed I recover quickly enough to drink Miner's beer :good:

Vaguely considering it, or will be at the Stromlo Running Festival. My impressively zigzagging swim on Sunday didn't help the confidence much.....

Abso-freken-lutely :good:

Was hoping to do Canberra HIM, but was unable to get in the necessary training. (Proved it to myself at the Nepean Tri).

Huski sprint was my first tri, and I had a ball. I've been looking forward to the long course since then.

By the way, early entries close at midnight tonight, chance to save $15.

I'm in!

I wanted to do Nepean on the weekend with the hordes of CRs involved, but left it too late on the entry and the race closed. So I still haven't pulled on a wetsuit or touched a set of aero bars for 9 months now... Very much looking forward to Husky!

How would previous competitors judge the bike course?

3 loops. Rolling hills but actually pretty fast course.
Protected from the wind. My theory is that you can push hard on the bike on this one as the run is dead flat.

This is my favourite race and will be there for sure!

I really want to pile Mouse up with more beer, but after giving suggestions down at Nepean that I may get there, I've actually done the right thing and checked the calendar - and it's on the same weekend as the Trial Bay Triathlon, which is kind of a big deal up our way.

Same clash as last year too if I remember rightly - only probably affects a handful of us on the Mid North Coast I suspect, but a shame nonetheless.

This is one of the best organised races around. The wave starts have smaller groups than you get in any other race and the conditions the last couple of years have been great. Don't sweat the swim at this one.

Shame about the clash Miners - but I will be sure to pile myself up with beer in your absence if I beat my estimated time :good:

Should be a great little holiday for us, kids will be doing the miniman events and NTR is possibly doing the sprint. Actually I just made that bit up, I have no idea if he is entering the sprint

I think i will provide support crew services on this one! Its too close for 6ft for a noob like me i think, to risk falling off the bike, getting eaten by a shark, or tripping over on the run.

Huski entered. Last year i missed out on entry to both this and 6FT. This year i cant wait to do this race in the lead up to IM.

Looks like a good contingent of CR's will be down for the weekend.

I feel a beerocolate bet is on the cards.

By all accounts this sounds like a fabulous race. Jervis Bay + Huskisson even featured on (? Getaway / Great outdoors) last night - I didn't watch it as I was cooking, but "a spectacular location" according to the credible (!) travel show...

Might be a nice goal after Canberra Half IM in 10 days. I was also contemplating Geelong. ahh decisions decisions.

I say we should ask B+ since he did such a great job last time, can pay him in beer and/or chocolate ;)

Otherwise Mango or Miners may do it for similar payment??

I can't specifically speak for Mango, but you seem to be assuming we both have some small degree of intelligence &/or experience in these things - and can operate a smiggle calculator

Shan - the IM Bug has bitten you hard!! :good: :o

Would be great to see you guys at Huski - Pete Sutho, Jase the shoemaker and I are all in for the long course - perfect lead up to Port in late March..

ps - good to see you back on your feet. Red Leader and I both discovered the 'exhaustion zone' about 2 weeks after Port HIM. ;)

Starting to slowly enjoy training again which is positive...

I'm in (sane)!! Most immediate task: smooth out the tyres on my bike. Or invest in something a touch sleeker.

I don't think I should participate in any sort of beer bet though, because last time I bought the beer and then promptly drank it before event day :good: oops.

Sorry Mouse but I also resemble Miners comments ;)

Having said that, B+ actually divulged his highly scientific approach in determining the handicaps for Nepean so I would be more than happy to volunteer my services.

Bugger, I guess I should think about putting this race on my calendar as well then...

How about this for a handicap system

You do a race, any race shorter than the Long course. i.e nepean, maitland, sprint distance or OD.

From the official timings of the race we work out your pace for each leg.

Then all we do is change the distances for the legs and hey presto, we have your handicap time.

You would have to be superhuman to be able to beat that handicap times but its about getting closest to that time. Its easy to work out the winner and so on. we use percentages not time difference.

We can use this calculator to work out paces and predicted handicap time.

Posted Image
the top is my Nepean Tri times
the bottom is what ill be aiming for at Huski.

simple and easy.

I just used that calculator for me and got 6.18. Not sure if that is a gross underestimate or not. It possibly depends on how much time I spent in T1 with my singlet top stuck in a big wet roll under my arm pits. Not that I have any experience with that happening...

BUT I just had a great idea! If we get organised and check the Little A's and baseball calendars - we may find them not on! TBC ;)

I'll be there for sure for my 3rd long course.

After 5 weeks of doing absolutely nothing after Busso, I am unfit/fat but back into training.

5 weeks to go.
