Who is up for the black stump?
I am looking forward to this one after a shoddy time last year.

Will run the PP version tonight for training.
At least there is no rego or qualifier for this run...
#3
Posted 02 December 2009 - 03:45 PM
no mentioning 'that 45km run' please...
And if you are using it to qualify for something i woudnt mention it on this thread fellow forum members...there will be some disgruntled members who didnt get in to 'the race that shall not be named'...accidents can easily happen beyond the black stump..a serious fall when heading down to the water would be a shame..and who is to say if the committee of 'the race that shall not be named' would believe a 'but i was pushed / poisoned / had my camel back bladder slashed' excuse for not qualifying.
So..mums the word..
THIS IS A BLACK STUMP THREAD

Last time I saw you on this course it was indeed shoddy
You went out for a supposed cruisy target of 3:45 and didn't get within 30 minutes of it
See you Jan 1st

Have fun out there.
Last year i put an esky at the bottom of the steps and on the way back was able to fuel up and rehydrate. It was great to have it avaiable on the hot day.

I am looking foward to a few weeks rest after C2K and then Black Stump can be my first run back.
It can be the kick start to a new year which will be great. 09 was filled with many lows and many highs and it will be interesting to see what 2010 will bring.

Also - does anyone know who to contact to let know I'll be doing the run? I know there's no registration, but I read something about letting the organisers know so that there'll be enough photocopies of the map...
Cheers

i am sure the organisers will have enough maps. also 100+ do this so you have very little chance of getting lost...unless you are leading!
it is tough. if you can do sub 3 you will be one of the very fastest. sub 330 is tickety boo and sub 4 nothing to be ashamed of.

Managed to get some accommodation in Windsor (I know it's not super close, but better than driving up from Canberra at 2am...), now just got to work out a strategy for carrying water on the day and I'll be set.

Bring your own maps - there will be none given out (by me).
If anyone is feeling generous, please bring spare copies for others.

So aren't you charging an entry fee for 2010 Kev?
I hope to be out of the zimmer frame by then and start the training for 6 Foot.
Let the fun begin.

I went out a few weeks ago to check out the course on that day that was like 40 degrees (which was not the best idea), but I always like to find out what I am getting myself into. I am sure it is going to really punish me (just have to make sure I don't hurt myself as I am off to climb a mountain in Argentina later in the month).
Really looking forward to the event and meeting some new people.
See you out there!

Hi Johnny
Black stump starts with a firetrail & single track bush run down to the ferry
Then long uphill bitumen - similar to the DS return up road, all runnable
Then out & back into bush
Then return down same bitumen - like start of DS
Then very steep singletrack up the hill - maybe similar to Mt Tennant but some bits much steeper, lots of walking here
Then flat bitumen road to finish
I've made the 25k mark at DS in around 3 hours and for black stump (33k) around 4 hours
So fairly similar when you factor in say 15 mins of ferry time
This is a lot more scenic than Namadji!

But Horrie - it is ONLY 33km. A walk inthe park for a Gramd Slammer.
This is a great event. Complete range of terrain from bitumen road, fire trails, single track, vertical climbs (i kid you not) and a free ferry ride. Who could ask for more on 1st January.

Sadly will be missing this year after 2 years of agony/ecstasy. My SFt training will be starting south of the border, down Mexico way...

I know that contradicts the fat ass communal philosophy but I'm not keen to still be running in the heat at lunchtime.

Thanks for that Cliffold. I thought someone must have run both of them and could compare for me. I'm a bit worried about scrambling up the hill/ cliff, but hopefully I'll survive!! This will be my first run over 30km (apart from one or two training runs on flat ground...).
Can't wait though - I went to a wedding down at Berowra Waters earlier this year and it's such a beautiful place.

I'll be there for the 16K party pooper option as a late hit-out before Hobart.
Let's see if I can get breath tested again on the way to the start. 2 out of 4 years in my running gear.
And I'm not even doing that downhill race West of Sydney.

I've only done the full DSMM and I can tell you that BTBS is not nearly as difficult. I was 40sec per km faster at Berowra last time I did it and I was a lot less experienced back then.
I'll be there on Jan 1, first time since the Jan 2 version back in 2006.
Final long hit-out before B2H on the 10th so won't be doing anything silly.

Cool, thanks for that Sir Runalot. You've put my mind at ease. I haven't yet done the full DSMM, but survived the 25km this year with an ok time, and plan on doing the full marathon in 2010 (along with a few other choice offroad/ trail marathons, one of which is not to be named in this forum...).

Thread has been very low key this year. Is anyone taking care of putting water/drinks out near the castle or over on the trail near Berowra??? Last couple of years Jan has helped out, but I was chatting to him last night and he will be away on hols.
Must say, if it is a hot day, the drinks are always welcome.

I knew your situation - didnt think you would be up when the sparrows fart to do the drop.
Just wanted to raise it to see what was being planned. Brewer has the first drop organised. Maybe a local for the track over near suburbia.

Caleb, is it possible for you to edit the thread and add a poll to the top so we can get an idea of how many people going to show?
