Horrie, thanks so much for giving up an opportunity to run.
All the unqualified, please call out your name as you get to the turn, so that Horrie can record a 'time of day' which we can match to the validation time submitted. I will also send an email reminder to the unqualified group.
This race is not organised by 6FT, but I am trying to make sure we have integrity in the qualification with the 'fat ass' races.

Already discussed with Horrie and as I said I will email them too.
However, this is just a service Horrie is doing for us...it is up to those trying for qualifying to make sure they have their name on list, start time, finish time and that they call their name out to Horrie...he doesn't have to ask them.
It is not 6FT's responsibility, but if someone puts down a dubious time and there is no evidence to back it up, it will not be accepted...that will be made clear to them in email.

Let me know if you need more water drops at the top of the climb. I hve two of Orimbah's water container and plan to return to him that day. I live 20 mimutes away so easy for me if brewer's Keg is not sufficient. I can drop off an Esky too with some drinks
Since the weather is predicated to be wet, it mighht not be needed.

I thought Ourimbah was doing a Nigel and holding hands with SlowManiac on their run to Mittagong ?
PS I was going to suggest there should be a gold coin donation for those accepting drinks. I plan to run with back pack so won't need the drinks, but happy to make a donation for a cupcake at the end.

I think a gold coin tin at the end is a great idea for those consuming drinks.
All : do NOT rely on there being adequate drinks, BYO. and if are lucky enough to receive some aid, just take SOME and leave enough for others. No piggies.
Regardless of the weather forecast - aim for a hot one.

Will have cordials in one container and water in another. Esky will have a few cans of normal cokes and maybe some other drinks
If I have time, will add in some fruits and stuff.
I am coming from the Upper north shore. If anyone needs a ride (and wouldn't mind carrying the other jerry can) PM me. nd will arrange to pick you up!(and make you do manual labour as warm up before run) And yes, I will be leaving early!!!
p/s: Gold Coin welcome

BTW, it's a good idea to leave time to get pulled over for an RBT along the way. Last year the cop who stopped us looked at our running gear and laughed, "If you two are drunk, we're all in trouble."

Happy to give you a hand with the water drops..
I will make my own way there as coming from another location but happy to go a bit earlier and assist with the drops if needed. If the weather is cool it should be fine. I have seen those drops on a hot day after the pack has gone through. I still remember sucking on a piece of ice and considering myself lucky

Thank you Kev, Horrie & all others for organising, it is a brilliant way to start a new year
Last year I had a lovely time spending about 20 min exploring the Castle & taking in the views, however this year I am out to flog myself
The last couple of years there have been a bunch of runners leave at 0600, and this was my plan this year as well. Being slow it would suit me and help beat the heat. There is only a slim chance I might qualify but I have to try!
What time will you guys be out at the Castle (I don’t expect to be there before 2.5 hr)?

Noindifference; I can give you a lift. I may not be able to give you a lift home.
Travelling from the Blue Mountains, I hope to do the 6am start and do the 33 km. Being new to competitive running, you may be able to convince me otherwise, because I am thinking of leaving Springwood at 4am.

Hello DownhillDiva,
If you really want to qualify, and you really want to leave at 6.00am, i would be happy to journey down earlier and start with you. I have done the BTBS run a few times, know the course and have a Garmin, so i could pace you and make sure the rules are not bent. But only if you are keen on qualifying. I would be happy to help out here. As long as this is approved by the 6ft Board. If not then i will do a 7.00am start and go for a 4hr pb myself. LOve this run - hard but good.

I thought it best to hold back and escort well known Central Coast runners, as there are some tough parts to this run - the entry to the ferry, the departure off the ferry, the roundabaout near the finish - i am sure the CC cr's need a helping hand here.

But as the person that is being sent out to the castle to ensure runners reach that point before turning around, I will not be leaving the start until the runners have started at 7am. Therefore I plan to be at the castle before the leading runners after doing the drinks drop.
So if you don't see me at the castle I cannot verify that you reached there. No verification from me means no 6 Foot qualifier.
My advice would be if you want to use this run as a 6 Foot qualifier then you should start with everybody else at 7am.

There will be a strong contingent of Berowra Bush Runners in attendance (this is our back yard after all) to welcome one and all. Watch out for B2, she's on fire.
Just remember all you 'fatasses', there are a couple of pretty skinny gaps in the rocks to climb through on the way back up from the ferry, leave your bumbag at home

Actually looks like Caleb, with whom i ran this in August is out with lower back problems, and thankfully I won't have to try and keep up with him (...he is wave 1 six foot)

Carl will be the first Coastie given there are some good runable sections in the middle and at the end for him to stretch out on.
It would be excellent if someone took a camera with them to get a picture of the ferry full of runners.
I have been looking forward to doing this run again for 12 months ... it is just so unique with a bit of everything (road, fire trail, single track, views, climbs that knock the stuffing out of you) and a ferry that groups people together twice so you get a chat and a rest mid-run ... can't wait

If you look at the pdf in the 2009 Results Post, if you took 15 minutes off these people's time it would be about right.
It does depend on the person, some people lose a lot of time on trails, others don't. 6ft is similar, some people can do 6ft in 1.3x of their marathon, others are more like 1.6x.
So yes, BTBS is probably one of the easiest ways to qualify for 6ft, certainly much easier than running a sub-4 marathon. I believe it is designed this way as 6ft isn't a nice flat road course.

I take it back that Carl will be the fastest Coastie if you turn up.
Not a race, no fees, no awards, not even official results, just bragging rights. Last year people wrote their finish times on a piece of paper at the end. I think most try for a time.

Seems to me that most of those are a fair bit more than 15min slower over BTBS...but it depends how hard they were running...you cannot compare it to their marathon PB at all.
Mick, on Dec 30 2009, 09:11 PM, said:
Marathon to 6FT conversions are not really due to people's ability to run trails. 6FT is not very technical at all, save for the bit down Nellies Glen...and I haven't really seen a 'trail runner' (or not a road runner) stay with me down Nellies yet.
More likely reason for variance in conversion is the way people run the race...those who run too fast in first half etc.
Mick, on Dec 30 2009, 09:11 PM, said:
...and therefore the above will change. If BTBS is still a qualifier, it will be much tighter and/or road marathons will have a bit more slack, which will also make people less dependent on Sydney centric fat asses.
judo, on Dec 30 2009, 10:18 PM, said:
Not really a race, though obviously there will be battles up front (if close) or between certain people.
However, the only people who will have 'authentic' times are the qualifiers.

Happy to concede I didn't look past the first page, so a multiplier like 1.1 might be more accurate for others. Perhaps someone can come up with a nice formula that takes into account your trail running ability.
