This year the Beer Mile will be organised by The Run Inn crew with the intention of it being a fun fundraising afternoon with the family (if you have one!)

The venue will be announced soon.  What we can tell you so far is:

  • It will be 26th January (Australia Day - duh!)
  • In the afternoon (start time probably 4:00pm)
  • It will take place on a marked 400 metre track
  • The rules regarding the types of beer and size of the bottle still apply to be "officially" recognised!
  • However, alternatives are allowed including the Magnum and the Coke Mile (and possibly the sparkling wine piccolo)
A BBQ sausage sizzle will be available after the main event
Remember if you are intending to participate that you will need to organise a lift home - no drink-driving please!

Please come along to  to make it a special and successful afternoon.
Keep an eye on this thread for updates as we will keep you informed of developments as they come to light.
In the meantime, happy training!

So, a marathon of about four loops at Victoria Point or a mile where the rules insist that I MUST drink at least four beers and replace them should they 'decide to leave' ... hmmm, decisions, decisions  :good:

What?  I was going to do both - why make yourself only half sick and sorry when you can do a proper job of it?

Besides the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia is the chosen charity, so it's for a great cause too!

I was thinking both... but then I heard a rumour that Tamsin becomes a genuine Aussie Bogan on the same day... decisions... decisions!

I'm probably going to do both (although not a full marathon at Vicky Point)

Obviously the citizenship test and ceremony should be a Beer Mile.

Surely if Tamsin's becoming a bogan then the true test of her 'boganity' is the beer mile?  :good:

I wasn't, but now I might, be up for both.  If it's only one though, it'll be the 4:00 pm one but I'll be at Victoria Point for morale support  ;)

I've just been talking to the new race director, and it looks like she and the Run Inn crew have this all under control.

In fact, the race director thinks she can set an Australian women's record.

The 'Brisbane' record is held by Tank Girl, so this could be an interesting afternoon.

Yeah, but is that the record for heavies or Magnum ice-creams?

If you are brave you can try the Magnum Mile, but you will have to tae on the kids, and they will be tough to beat.

Oki doki! - Update...

Location has been confirmed as Enoggera Park, Shand Street, Stafford

http://maps.google.c...m...019248&z=16

Park facilities include playground, toilets and off-street parking.  Track will be measured.

As we intend to make this a fun afternoon for the family as well as a fundraiser we ask for a $5 entry or $10 including sausage sizzle WITH lamingtons ;) ($12 for vege option).  Sizzle only will be $5.  We will start at 4:00 pm as digger has done in previous years with kids races, so be early!  Egg and spoon, hot potatoes etc!

So that last minute entrants can participate, we will bring a limited number of magnums and cokes to sell, but BYO beer.  If you want an official result, make sure your beer meets the stipulations see www.beermile.com for details.  Other options are available and I have some extra gluten-free beer for any celiacs out there (no excuses now eh?)

The race has been registered as Queensland Beer Mile Championships.

A flyer will be done up shortly with all finalised deets...  :good:

(I have edited this as the guys objected to my original price suggestions and think that the charity deserves more)

Tons of it, Brains SA being my favourite.  Alas, there is none to be had here (it doesn't travel very well outside of Cardiff never mind out of Wales!) so it's dependable old Toohey's Extra Dry :unknw:

Thanks to Susannah and Phil for putting on such a great event. Unfortunately, for the third year in a row, I came fifth and I didn't get a PB either (although an improvement on last year).

I was bloody impressed to see Chris down a carton of raw eggs and half a carton of milk though.

My UniqueName - were you the one with the warm beer?

Ditto the thanks, we had a good laugh.

Given Chris' recent performances over distance, maybe 3 raw eggs in 300ml of milk is the new ultra fuel - it looked like it went down like water (I think those observing had bigger stomach upsets just watching!)

You should make this compulsory for every lap in the Wild Horse Criterium.

A great afternoon - thank you to all who participated and well done!  Some amazing performances out there including Mandy's debut in the Magnum, Nina's in the Beer and Chris in the egg and milk.

All the volunteers who turned up and helped, we couldn't have done it without you - so THANK YOU Silverpuff, Joan, Laurie, Di, Cheryl, Michael and of course, Uncle Phil.  I will put the results up when I pick my car up from the northside tonight.  If anyone has some photos to share, please PM or email me so that I can upload them.

Now, back to nursing this headache and trying to work...

Yep that was me, although let me just state for the record that (1) it was never my intention for my beer to be so warm and (2) drinking warm beer, on a hot day, is really, really awful. I would probably even be tempted to go down the 3-eggs-and-milk path instead!

Was my first time doing something like this and thought it was a great afternoon. It was really well organised, and credit definitely goes to all the organisers and volunteers for that. It also had a really fun atmosphere, and it was good to meet some more CRs.

Thanks to everyone involved and I look forward to having another go next year  :unknw:

Dave.

Once again a fun afternoon. Thanks to the Run Inn & Susannah. (excellent beer stein trophies   :unknw: )
I believe Nina smashed the Aus womens beer record.

I think I'll stick to beers, those eggs & milk drinks that Chris had didn't look very appetising.
Only 12 months to wait for the next one.

Sussanah,

You better re-organise the pgae to put the wuss's who used 330ml stubbies into the 'Non-Beer mile section(340ml minimum-by the International rules.

Oops, I just noticed who was one of them. :unknw:

As Digger has already announced on his thread for the Convicts and Wenches run - the 2011 Queensland Beer Mile championships are back on!

I am delighted and honoured (right word!?) to be organising this again with the able help of the fab people at The Run Inn.  I hope this will prove even bigger and better than last time.  Expectations for the carry-over champions are high...

Run67 for the beer mile
Traqrunner for the Magnum mile
Schultzy upgrading from the Coke to the beer (so rumours will have me believe)
Will we see the return of CNoble and his milk and egg mile? (eeewww)
My amazing friend Nina and her incredible Beer Mile (go girl!)

The premise will be very similar to last year.  I will do up a flyer but keep an eye on this post for details as I get them planned.  Location will be the same.

Training season is on - I hope you are all attacking the gruelling regime!  :)

I too will be there and have been training hard.  My damaged ligaments on one foot and broken toe on the other have not hindered my 'other' training and I'm now a 'robust' 10 kg's heavier than my 2010 form!

PS: there are weight divisions this time ... right?

Here's the flyer for this year's event!  Yes, indeed blush, it's fun alright! Please note that although the phone number for The Run Inn in the flyer will get you through, they have a new one (to go with their new address in Alderley) which is 3356 3646.

I would appreciate it greatly if you can let us know if you want to participate so I can cater for you!  Vegetarians will be catered for in the sausage sizzle and all lamingtons will be gluten free!

So little time, so much training required!

Is there a C2BM programme I can download?

Should I buy an iPod so I can listen to beer drinking songs during the race?

Should I use a GPS to determine which hemisphere I'm in at all stages of the race, so that I know which way the beer will gurgle as I pour?

Which shoes should I wear for this race?

Are there specific stretches for pre- and post-Beer Mile?

Training. Should I go long (train with tallies) or fast (train with many stubbies)?

Will there be drug testing for me and the other two place-getters after the race?

What if it rains while training?

I'm sure I'll think of more ...

Will there be drug testing for me and the other two place-getters after the race?

What if it rains while training?

I'm sure I'll think of more ...

have you tried the CR search button :)

Official Beermile.Com Rules
       1. Each competitor drinks four cans of beer and runs four laps on a track
          (Start - beer/lap, beer/lap, beer/lap, beer/lap - finish).
       2. Beer must be consumed before the lap is begun, within the
transition area which is the 10 meter zone before the start/finish
          line on a 400m track.
       3. The race begins with the drinking of the first beer in the last meter
of the transition zone to ensure the comptitors run a complete mile
          (1609 meters).
       4. Women also drink four beers in four laps (past rule lists only required
          ladies to drink three beers).
       5. Competitors must drink canned beer and the cans should not be
less than 355ml (the standard can volume) or 12oz (the imperial equivalent).
Bottles may be substituted for cans as long as they are at least
12 oz (355 ml) in volume.
       6. No specialized cans or bottles may be used that give an advantage
by allowing the beer to pour at a faster rate. ie "super mega
mouth cans" or "wide mouth bottles" are prohibited.
       7. Beer cans must not be tampered with in any manner, ie. no
shotgunning or puncturing of the can except for opening the can by
the tab at the top. The same applies with bottles - no straws or
other aids are allowed in order to aid in the speed of pouring.
       8. Beer must be a minimum of 5% alcohol by volume.  Hard ciders and lemonades
will not suffice.  The beer must be a fermented alcoholic beverage
brewed from malt and flavored with hops.  For an abbreviated list of valid
          beers and exceptions, click here.
       9. Each beer can must not be opened until the competitor enters the
          transition zone on each lap.
      10. Competitors who vomit before they finish the race must complete
one penalty lap at the end of the race (immediately after the
completion of their 4th lap). Note: Vomitting more than once
during the race still requires only one penalty lap at the end.

Be serious. This race is only a mile. No need to breathe. And breathing would only slow down the rapid can of beer ingestion.

Cheers,
