DNA is a new adaptable heel and forefoot cushioning system to provide optimum shock absorption and energy return for each individual runners needs.

Done about 50 klm's in new pairs of 7's and 8's - the cushioning in the 8's significantly better.

I tried a pair of the new Glycerin and loved the feel of them (ran in them for 2 weeks)....and the faster you run, the better they feel. Only problem was that they were letting my left foot pronate too much. So, I'm back in the Inifiniti.....but waiting for the DNA to be in the other models.....hopefully soon. Love it!

Can someone tell me what the difference between non-Newtonian material and normal shoe material is?

Hi Rex
There's an interesting video on the DNA material on the Brooks US website. My year 12 physics/science-loving daughter tells me the non-Newtonian thing is real. She even showed me using a cornflour mixture! By my limited comprehension, I understand the premise is that the higher the impact the greater (up to a point) the resistance. That is, at very low impact, it acts as a fluid, but at higher impact as a solid (albeit soft one).
The video explains it much better than I can

I can understand why a heavier runner would require a firmer ride than a lighter runner -- and presumably the DNA compound would adapt to that. But the inverse to that is that a heavy foot striker may need more impact absorbtion than a light foot striker. How can it do both?
Edit: I am wondering whether this is also why in the shop when I was fresh and my gait relaxed and springy the shoes felt wonderfully cushioned, but after 10 km when I am beginning to get fatigued and hitting the ground harder, the shoes felt less forgiving. Perhaps that was in my imagination.
I am sure the Brooks chemical engineers have thought of this. However, it does lead me to think that it may be best to wait until the second generation of the compound.
It is a bit like never buying version x.0 of software -- always wait until the first update when they fix most of the bugs in the initial release.

Currently wearing 3 pairs of shoes in her weekly (50klm to 70klm) cycle - Glycerine 8's, Glycerine 7's and Nike Vomero 4's, all pairs about the same age.
At the beginning she noted the G8's to be much firmer than anticipated, and still favoured the softer ride of the Nikes. Approx 200 klm's later she is now struggling to even look at the Nikes as the G8's are now giving a much superior and cushioned ride. Her current order of shoe preference - G8's, Nike Vomero 4, G7's.
Is anybody else out there noticing a better feel for the G8's after a substantial run-in period?

Yes, I still technically pronate a little too much in the Glycerin 8, but the feel and less impact on the forefoot far outweighs that. Interestingly, according to the guys that I'm training with - my running is much smoother and much better form in the Glycerin 8, so obviously what I do at slower speed trying them out....is different to the on road test. I'm very lucky to be able to do this - helps when you train with the guys who run a running shop!!
I can't say I've noticed a difference as they settle in - comfy from the word go!
