i've not done any stair climb races but it looks like it could be a laugh.. anyone able to tell me how hard 400 stairs is??

Not too bad at all. The Sydney Tower Run Up is 1550 steps and the winner does about 8 mins, so 400 steps will be over within 2 mins for the guns. They should start it from the bottom where Black Mountain Drive turns off Clunies Ross St. That would make it a worthwhile workout.
