I was looking at doing Byron Bay triathlon this year as my first Oly
It looks fairly civilized - 1pm start , I guess being in byron everything is a little more er..."laid back"
Its in May - in the ocean , so I'd assume its a wetsuit swim - anyone else done it before , any idea if its normally wet-suit.
Its a push for me to swim that distance , but if I dont enter then i wont commit to the training - from now until May is enough time to get through a 1.5k ocean swim.

It's totally crap. Don't even think about entering. You'd hate it.
PS If you enter and I don't get in, I'm gunna be cranky

I've done it the last two years and I plan to do it again this year.
Has been wetsuit swim last two years. As Miners said road for cycle leg is not blocked off to traffic although there are marshals at the corners. Can be a bit of congestion, but having said that my cycle times have been slightly faster than I normally do at Mooloolaba and Noosa.
Its definitely more laid back than Mooloolaba and Noosa, and I find the Saturday afternoon time very civilised - you can go out on Saturday night and enjoy the rest of the weekend without focusing nervously on the prospect of the race.
See you there!
