Hey all,
Just wondering what some good cross country/ track spikes are?

I have never wore spikes before and would like some that i can wear for track (800m, 1500m, 3k) and cross country(3k-5k)?

Also does it matter how many spikes are in the shoe? Which is better 4 spikes or 6 spikes to have in the shoe?

Thanks Hjrw

Cross country you don't always need spikes but they can help heaps if the grass is slippery or even muddy.
As far as spikes go it all depends on how much you want to spend, i only use NIKE ZOOM VICTORIES now, they are light, and fit like a glove and feel great, but expect to pay around $200 here or $120 from USA direct, i also wore them in the national x country championships at nowra last year without issues. Having said that if you wore them in x country all the time you would ruin them. Nike make another pair that are more suited to 3k which i have also worn and they have slightly more cushioning than the victories, they are the Mutumbo model, and can be worn in any race really.
so there you have it, Victories for 800/1500 maybe 3k or mutumbo in any event, they cost the same.

The main thing no matter what spike you buy is to make sure that it is a true "middle distance " spike i.e with cushioning wedge that goes the full length of the shoe.
hope this helps.

Yeah, spikes for XC aren't essential (flats would probably suffice), but can be useful in certain conditions when you need that extra traction, however I would only ever wear mine in important races because as TrackRunner said, you would ruin them if you used them all the time in XC. I use Nike Zoom Victories as well in the 800/1500/3000m on track, and have been very pleased with them, and so they would be my suggestion to you for use on the track, however while I have not worn the Matumbos i would suggest them as an alternative if you find the Victories to not have enough support over like 5km of XC, however i would think they would do fine, but everyone is different.
