Hi All,

After battling my way through Jelly's yesterday in the Williamstown 2km open water swim I've decided it's time to get myself a wetsuit.
Its intended use will be mainly for short triathlons as well as the occasional 1+ km open water swim.
So far I'm looking at the Orca Sonar (about $400) and the 2XU T0 (about $350) and am wondering what people's views are as to which is the better suit and also if there are any other suits I should be considering.
My absolute maximum price I'm looking to spend is $400.
Any and all advice appreciated.

Cheers,
Koves

Hi Koves

I had an Orca Sonar and to me it seemed a bit fragile.

First I put my finger through it just at the hip- which came open repeatedly until a wetsuit repair guy just smothered it with glue - and then the collar tore as i was emoving it during a race. And no, I wasn't yanking it by the collar.

After that, the zipper broke. Maybe it was just the individual suit and not indicative of the brand, because all my other Orca gear is great.

I still have the patched-up Orca as a spare/training wetty, but I now have a Blue Seventy which I love. Sorry, but I'm not sure what their price range is.

Hope this helps you a bit.

M

Koves, did you actually hit any jellies? I was swimming sans wettie and only saw a few down deep but never got stung.

As far as wetsuits go, I think the fancy looking top of the range ones are now over $900

I am also a fan of the Blue Seventy, I have a long john and it cost around $350.

Hi Kevin,
I was keeping a keen eye out the whole way but I managed to get stung on the third last jelly I passed. Had a few close calls on plenty of others though.

Thanks Muzman,
I certainly don't want anything too fragile. Might have to check out the Blue Seventy
Cheers.
