It has left me with a very sore rib... and i havnt been able to do much training this week

fingers crossed it comes good in the next few days (hopefully a blessing in disguise that made me get in a good taper)

good luck with your race

Have fun, all the best!
Hope your insides are a lot better now :unknw:

I'm doing Geelong in a team - I'm doing the swim and bike...(but not the run due to recent injuries)...

Good luck, everyone!

+1 more
I'll be there to make the likes of Magnus look quick. Hoping to trundle over the line in under 6 hrs. Was 6:25 when I last did it 2 years ago.

I'm also in. Have entered many months ago... It's hard to believe that the race is this weekend. Timewise...just finish within the cut-off time will be good.

G'day Jack & LeeLa
Indeed 3 more sleeps till it's game time!
At this stage I'd be looking for one of 3 goals in terms of time

1. Finish before cut off
2. Sub 6hrs
3. Sub 5h30

Depending on the weather will depend if I will be wearing the CR colours

G' day all.
Just wondering what the weather is like in Geelong (on Sunday). Is wetsuit allowed? I've never done a mass start in swim leg before, so this will be very interesting. Should I be wearing a helmet in the swim leg :unknw: Getting excited now. Will drive from Adelaide tomorrow morning.. hopefully will be able to get some rest before Sunday.

Gento, I think i may be sharing similar goals as yours (particularly no. 1 and 2) what do you seed yourself in the swim?

It's done now... how did everyone go on Sunday? I've (just) survived my first mass start swimming. Got many kicks, punches and elbows from unknown hands and feet including those jelly fish that seem to be everywhere! Love Geelong- will definitely go back there again. Hope you all had a great race. Gento- how did you go in the swim?

Yes the jellyfish were annoying! though I kicked someone in the head, but ended up being a jellyfish in the wrong place at the wrong time :D
I got 52 mins for the swim, didn't finish the bike in time for the cut off. How did you all go?
All in all it was a fun day and another triathlon is definitely on my to do list.
Being my first ever triathlon and first swim in the open water since march 2008 with only 8 weeks of nike and swim training, it was a learning experience if anything :D
What's the next race / event on your calendars?

I went 6:14. Not quite the sub 6:00 I was hoping for but really happy and enjoyed it. Good swim = no need to breaststroke. Good bike - evenish splits for 1st 2 laps and managed to stay on the tribars all thru. Run was just plain hard work. I was hoping to maintain 6:00km but ended up with around 6:30. Pleasing tho I had even run splits.

It's a great event. looking forward to rocking up next year. May even go sub 6:00.

Jack

Gento- there is always the next one. You were so blave to have done your first ever triathlon and it was the Half Ironman distance. My hat off to you. It was my second HIM race, but was my first mass start. Happy to finish under 6hrs. Next stop --> Port Mac IM.

Well done everyone - I was there all weekend helping put on the race and cheered athletes from the various Aid Stations on the bike and run course. Let me know if there were any issues with any of the aid stations and I will try to rectify it for next year....

Sorry to hear of your dnf magnus, you must have been well up in the pointy end of the field at that time.

Well done to everyone else who gave it a go.

a learning curve indeed - decided to race the next tri using a racer and not a mountain bike
Pastyboy, the volunteers were awesome, so much support too :D
Leela, all the best with PM IM, 6 weeks to go!
JackW, I agree with you - a very enjoyable day. Keep up the training
Magnus, I feel your pain of a DNF... In the 6 months that I've been racing (all fo them running races) this was my first DNF. But it made me more hungry to succeed and triumph so that a repeat doesn't occur.

Well done on the commitment to take part in an elite event!

Wow! Gento I rememer seeing a soliotary mountain bike so I presume it was you. I found the 90kms on a road bike hard enough so I can't imagine how tough it would be on a MB.

I found the aid stations and volunteers to be the best for any event I've competed in. It was my second 1/2 IM and I managed to improve my times in all 3 disciplines. The run course was fairly hilly and it was my first mass start swim. I didn't think I would swim a good time with all the bumps, holds and kicks but very suprised to do 37.02 which was an 8min 32 sec PB for me. The washing machine full of elbows and feet must have distracted me from how tired I usually feel after swimming more than 100m.

I received an email from IMG stating they no longer manage the 1/2 ironman series but plan to hold onto this course on this date. Does this mean there may be two 1/2 IM events in Geelong?

Hi everyone,
i was at geelong last week, was there supporting my other half.. my training hasn't been consistent enough and i knew i would be pushing for the bike leg, by my calculations, i would have had 7 mins to spare but i didn't want to place that pressure on myself for my first half...
a huge congratulations to you all...an incredible effort and Gento... when i saw a CR on the bike leg on a mountain bike.. i was in awe of your determination... there is always next year..
well done to everyone..whos in for GC in Oct? it will be my first half..cant wait

G'day Firecracker
Took a squiz at the GC page, didn't realise there were so many 70.3 events in Australia :D
See how the Sparke Helmore tri goes, that and if I'm still here in oct!
Happy training!

Stealth, well done on the PB :D Yes those memories of the washing machine will be imbedded for quite a while everytime swimming is involved! As for IMG, I guess there will be a half ironman event, just not run by IMG. Would be great if they have 2 events though!
