Next event: 7:30am Sunday 14 March, 2010, Black Mountain Peninsula, ACT
Note, change of start and finish location
The course starts at the end of Garryowen Drive on Black Mountain Peninsula. Runners will proceed along Garryowen Drive and turn left onto the shared path just before Lady Denman Drive. Runners then proceed along the shared path, (keeping to the left hand side) around West Basin and over Scrivener Dam before following shared paths past the ovals at Curtin, under McCulloch street and adjacent to Yarra Glen. The shared path then crosses under Melrose Drive and passes the Pitch n Putt in Woden. Shortly after runners turn and retrace their steps to Black Mountain Peninsula. Here they turn right onto the bike path near the rowing sheds and enter John Cardiff Close for the finish.

Right! I'm aching to do this race.. I feel like i haven't raced in AGES! Last one was the half mara as part of the Canberra Half Ironman as part of a team. I felt like a super ninja (and that feels pretty good) as i whipped all the poor buggers who had just cycled 80kms (or is it 90?).. anyway.. i'm looking forward to it. The Stromlo stuff wont really give me a good idea of where i am but i feel like i've been working hard and am hopeful (always hopeful) for a PB of ANYTHING under my current pb of 79 something.. I want to be a marathoner but am relatively speaking better at 10k's so it'll be interesting leading up to the canberra marathons to see how it is all coming together!

Anyone doing a fast tempo session early sat am in Canberra? 10K hard on my programme but shorter would be perhaps be okay
Am there this Sat and would be great if there is - staying Barton area - or anyone know of good routes in Canberra Nature Park? - that looks like a good running area. Any help appreciated - thanks all :-)

Fossil, there are plenty of trails to run on behind the War Memorial to the west of Mt Ainslie (just behind the War Memorial). These undulating trails would be good for a shorter tempo session, but probably do a warm up first to view the condition and grade of the track. Stick to the lower parts of the trails between Mt Ainslie and Mt Majura (hopefully you know these mts).
I'm planning on doing a 7k hard session (24:45~) of Lake Ginninderra (full lap on bike path 7.1k) - the other lake in Canberra. Considering you are staying in Barton, i'd suggest running down to Lake Burley Griffin and sticking to a bike path for a session. From Barton, cross Kings Av bridge-the other bridge that crosses lake BG (South to North), go under bridge and there is a flat bike path that continues......we'll, pretty much to the airport - 8km~. I've done some good 5k ACT cross country club runs here and other speed sessions. Otherwise if you are planning on running the WC 1/2, do the western loop of Lake BG = Start at the Ferry terminal or Lennox Gardens and stick to the bike path all the way round. It's is about 16k a lap and covers a good section of the WC1/2 course.
Hope this helps.

Hi all, well I've entered and booked my accommodation so I think that's me in!
Question though. This is the same start place as last year yeah? It certainly looks the same on the map - I am a bit confused as to the emphasis on the 'change of start'.

Previously held behind the Canberra Irish Club in Weston Creek. Start/finish was behind the Club. I think it is coming up to 3 years since it was run from the Club venue. It's just a reminder for those who are set in a routine for turning up to the club for the 1/2 each year!!!!

See you all there.

I had a good race, unusual in that i ran all the way with one guy.. he had had a long lay off from racing and had underestimated his ability. I was aiming for 78, and he was aiming for 82 but we ran the whole way together and he just got away from me at the death to beat me for 5th. We both pb'd which was great. Cool conditions and the wind kept at bay.. looked like it was getting a bit chilly and wet for some of the guys who were out there a bit longer than i was though..
great stuff, great to feel like i'm on track for canberra mara, or whatever it turns out to be..

I also had an enjoyable outing this morning, ran 98min which is about a 9min pb, so definitely will not be whinging about anything! Conditions were great for running (and apparently rowing and cycling as the other events on in the area seemed to have a good turn out too).
Great to see such a big and quite strong field. Was chatting before hand with someone who commented on the fact that whilst it was a large field, most are home under 2hours which is not what they see elsewhere.
Now need to log more long runs before 2 May.

Deadcat and bbren, glad you both had great mornings (coming 6th and a 9 min pb!!!!) - I think the weather seemed pretty good at least until about 0900 anyway.
Anyway, I will embark on a physio - endorsed program of stretching, cycling and deep water running so I dont lose too much fitness for 2 May while I am laid off.
