The swim starts from the deep water, to make your way out to the start line it can be pretty hairrasing depending on the swell. Take your time but dont be the last out in the water as the gun goes off without waiting for you to get in.
The run from the swim to transition is up a steepish hill and you will be buggered when you get into T1. Take your time to take off the wetsuit, sit down, dont bend over then fall A over T with head spins.
Secure tyres, pumps, tool holders well, its a bumpy ride along side the refinery and many people lose stuff along the way. Ride hard, its only 20 km and alot of time can be made up here.
The dismount line creeps up very quickly be prepared to stop. If you go over the bars you wil get alot of laughs as many people stand there waiting for it.
The run is nice and goes through the bush and then along the waters edge on a concrete path. Its not 5 km but close to it. some good hills along the 3 lap course.
Have fun its a great race and take your wallet along and pick up some bargains at the mini expo. Always alot of cheap clothing and gear there.
Be prepared to be humbled as there are so many great racers that go there and compete.
Good Luck

Hi gff!
I too am a first timer for this race on Sunday and glad to come across a fellow first timer in yourself. Not sure what to exchange though - been training for 'a triathlon' for a while now and bit the bullet and entered one. I have no doubts about my fitness across all 3 legs however I have not done ANY work on transitions (aim to take it slow and learn on Sunday) and secondly have done VERY little riding on the road so very nervous about this bike leg, again technical stuff not fitness based (I may be in for a rude shock to learn my fitness isn't up to it but I am confident it will be).
Thanks Ratdog for the tips, excellent info!
How about you gff?

Thanks Runset..to start with you have almost 20 years in age over me so you will have less fear and probably fitter!
I'm a runner and really spend from sept to jan learning to swim..slow..but not bad..lol
Like you..road cycling is all new to me to..but I have done one enticer and a few brick session with my club so have a feel for what is involved..
My objective is to do it ELEGANTLY ... that is swim without panicing, get on the bike with cleats and not fall over and run comfortably....
I am looking forward to it....
