Sunday 11 April 2010 (World Parkinson’s Day)
Distances: 10km, 21km, 42km, 50km, 60km (or any other distance you can think of)
Course: 10km loop
This is NOT an official event - and in the spirit of Fatass runs there are no prizes, no support, no aid, and no wimps!
This has nothing to do with any organised events in Canberra scheduled around this time of the year so please keep comments about these other events on the correct discussion thread (away from here
Hi everyone,
I plan to go for a jog beside Lake Burley Griffin at about 7am on Sunday 11 April and would like to recommend a 10km loop that might suit others who are interested in a bit of exercise on that day. This course was suggested by ChrisG and is rather convenient for anyone who would like to run a range of distances including 10km, (21km?), 42km, 50km, 60km.
Please post and let me know if you will be doing a training run that day so I can be sure to look out for you!
Personally I'm training for TNF100 in May so I'll be trying to cover as much ground as possible and will have plenty of Gatorade to keep me hydrated. If you are out and about feeling parched please say hi and help yourself to a drink! I have heard there will be other Coolrunners around with a similar hydration plan
11 April 2010 is World Parkinson’s Day and one of our very own Coolrunners - LindyK - is planning on walking 50km near Lake Burley Griffin on this day to raise money for Parkinson’s Disease. If you are out and about on that Sunday morning be sure to give her a wave and a smile and congratulate her on her outstanding effort!
Here's what another runner said on another thread that inspired me to train on this course. ChrisG I hope you don’t mind me quoting you!

I'll even have a couple of mates at a spot that will ensure I get a drink each 5km throughout my training run - what a great bunch of mates I have!
I also showed the course to a couple of other people I know and a few have said they'll be using the same training course, coincidentally on the same day (well, they were going to run the Canberra Marathon and, as it won't be on, what else would they do on that particular Sunday morning?) They'll be running varying distances from 10km up to 60km. They'll also be starting at varying times during the morning and I hear the mates kindly providing me with drinks have carelessly overcatered - enough for quite a few extra people apparently. One of those people will be LindyK - keep an eye out for her and, unless you're having a really serious training run (after all, none of this should be too serious, it is just a Sunday morning jog after all!) please take the time to spend some time with her on World Parkinsons Day (I hope you don't mind the plug Lindy?)
For anyone considering doing a training run on 11 April who wants a little bit of company, please post the distance you are planning to do on this forum (pretty much any distance from 10km up to 60km) and there's a fair chance someone else will be using this route to do the same distance. If there is, I'm sure someone will contact you via PM to let you know what time they are planning on starting out and the approximate pace they intend to run at. Even if there isn't, there will be a few friendly people out training at that time who will be happy to say g'day as you pass them (or they pass you
I look forward to seeing a few people before/during/after my training run on Sunday 11 April.
Cheers, Chris
So I hope to bump into lots of you on that day!
Note: I am not intending to organise an event of any sort for this day, nor do I know of anyone else who is. The purpose of this post is simply to suggest a nice time & place for a training run.
