- How many starters in the 2011 Beer Bet?
- Who will be the biggest poster in the thread?
- What sekrit training runs will be uncovered by Garmin data uploaded to a public webpage?
- Who will talk themselves up no end then not even enter?
- Will Fat Yak be bought by half a dozen people again?
- Will there be a glorious BMMC triumph?
- and dozens of others.....
The answers lie here in this thread.
Have at it, people!

- buckle year
- prove that this year was not a fluke
- more than willing to talk the talk
- an accomplished ninja trainer
- loves Fat Yak
- show the BMMC "bloc" that coasties can run in the bush, even without a skinny latte!
Lets hope that Mr G as thread starter does not suffer the same fate as the very quiet Professor from 2010!

- Preferred limit of 32 runners. This is slightly flexible (had 34/35 this year), but any more becomes difficult to manage.
- Preference always given to previous BB starters.
- Must be in Wave 2. This will mean a 6ft PB of approx 4:30-5:20. This will equate to a 3:00-3:45 road marathon.

I think you might have got that prize in the age and gender adjusted category (of beer betters) on Saturday. (Refer to results on the six foot site)
Coming from somewhere with no hills as well, pretty impressive climb up Pluvi!

In the spirit of John Stevens, DJB and MMM (Mountain-Monstering Mikey), I'm gonna hang it all out there real early and state I'm going for a 15 min PB next year, which should get me my true goal for 2011 of a Top 100 place. This should also get me a Podium finish. I will be motivated all year by Terry the Treelopper (or should that be Terry the Timelopper)'s awesome run of 4:02 and rightly earn my place in the leading 6 BMMC contenders!
See you at the Tree!

I would like to partake next year too.
Hey Rod, it will be interesting to see what the Wave one cutoff will be next year, maybe 4.35?

I ran 98th with 4:34. When you factor in the 20 female places allocated and spots for other runners with good credentials, I suspect the cut will be down around 4:30. I think the last few years it has been sneaking down by a couple of minutes and this year from memory was in the low 4:30's. Hatless will be the man that has all this info.
If you look at last year Tallgeoff was 4:41 and finished 108th. His bib ranking this year was 117. Apply similar this year and I end up with 110 or so. 10 finish spots in front of me is a 4:31, so 4:30 becomes an easy cut number.
God help the organisers if they think I should be in Wave 1.

The man sure talk the talk and walk the walk. Regardless I was a DNS, his time is way under my PB. As to how I would have ran the race, the time I could potentially run, we would never know. Being out on Sat perhpas wasn't that a smart move - It reset me back to my Midweek stauts - Bed bound since Sat evening until yesterday evening.
I will be back.
And yes, I am in! I am SO in...

Righto, lets get a couple of things straight....yep, I've been quiet. As an original BB'er from 09, I was down right pissed that I let the lot of you off not once in 09 but twice counting 2010 with the dickie archillis. Now I'm more than prepared to shoot my mouth off to all and sundry, and then collapse in a screaming heap and make a goose of myself on race day (hell, I've had plenty of practice at it!) if I'm actually running the event, but given that I had to slink off home and watch the fravolity from afar...well, yeah, I chose to button it.
But no more I say! The Prof's back!!
So bring on 2011, I'm not scared of you lot. And I'll be drinking a Squires Sundowner, thank you very much!

Plenty of unfinished business for all from BMMC, starting with the beer bet.

I am happy to start in Wave 3 and sweep again.
Next time maybe I should have bunny ears or something to identify myself. Although I draw the line at a bunny costume!
I felt a bit bad requesting scrunchies from the people I hadn't met yet.

Maybe but I like the idea of having someone chasing you down. It would be great to have a 4:40-4:45 runner starting from Wave 3 chasing the Beer Betters down!
Now I've gone Sub 5 I might have to train that bit harder and become that person...................

Good point ERB.
I think next year we need a pre race Beer Better briefing where all Beer Betters gather together say 20 mins before the start to have a group photo and then be introduced to the sweeper and the rules re the scrunchie handover re-inforced.
Having a sweeper that can do a 4:45 coming out of wave three like Nealo suggests would make things a bit interesting for those targetting sub 5 hours too.

I never wanted the sweeper taking scrunchies off people that were either under or close to 5 hours. I was trying to line the W3 runner up off the cut for W2, hence I was after someone that could run a 5:15 or so from W3. With the 10min start (I think or is it 15) that gives the runners 5:25 or so to get home. This is exactly what the W2 cut was this year. In effect that makes the sweep the same as a 7 hour sweep for the race, except it is in W2. I would hate for people to be going sub 5 and get collected - most particularly in the silver field are busting their gut for a sub 5 and it would hurt to get collared. That is not to say someone running 5:30 is not busting their gut, but the time is outside the W2 cut, so IMO fair game.
As for knowing ERB, that was my mistake as I thought most in the bet knew her. Will tidy it up next year. We tried to get everyone for a group photo pre race, but with the crowd it was so hard. Again we can work this better next year.
