I was not born to run - not long distances anyway - my body is definitely built for sprint but at some point four years ago I felt the need to run further and have been running ever since... badly, but running.

I'm looking to take it up a notch and enter a 10k and half this year. I'm not looking for best times or to beat others but to compete. My downfall is mental and although am a lover of loan running I'm hoping to meet someone to run with once a week to push myself with the aim of entering my first race.

Does that sound of interest to you or anyone you know? Do get in touch if so.
thanks

Hi Frankielass-welcome to Coolrunning.
You should probably mention where you are if you're after a running buddy!
Running can be mentally tough when you are stepping up distances.  Not to mention boring if you're doing the same sort of route all the time.  Many people run with music or podcasts to help them along.  Some use it as their "me " time, a time they can think and reflect without interruption.  I'm in the latter group most of the time, but another way I focus is to run trains which require a little more concentration than roads.  Mostly it's a quiet time to reflect on life though.
Good luck!

I would imagine they would, particularly if you were running in front of them. Those trains get quite a bit of speed up!

Sorry...

Welcome Frankielass, and good luck with your running. I really have nothing helpful to add, I just couldn't resist.

Hi Frankielass,
What I did was join a Runners club .... its great ... run with them each Sunday...
I do two or three solo runs during the week....
about once a month they have time trials to gauge improvement levels ...
there are four qualified coaches in the club ... so free advice if needed...

check out CR for clubs near you....

Just a thought ..

Keith

BN, it's late and I type badly at the best of times.  Earlier I posted on Facebook that I was getting my bile serviced.  The l and k shouldn't be together on a keyboard.

thanks for the warm welcome wombat!
I definitely use running for me time and running without music is something I don't ever think I can do. I am now at the point where running is not painful but actually enjoyable - it took a while...
If anyone is looking for a running buddy am in canberra - in the south in the narrabundah / kingston area but am happy to meet up most anywhere.
do get in touch if interested.
