Would anybody be interested in a short fatass run about 24-25kms?
I will check out this route to see that you can cross certain creeks but from memory I think you can.
It has been a while since I have run on the tracks so I could be wrong, not 100% sure you can cross Devlins Creek and join the Great North Walk at North Epping but will check it out soon.
This is the route I think we can do.

So any interest from people.

Unless there is consistent heavy rain for several days, all the creek crossings on that route are passable.

I am interested. Love those trails.

All passable, although it gets a bit narrow and winding after DeBurg's bridge if memory serves me correctly. I run that way a couple of times a week as far as Brown's Waterhole, albeit with a 10hour break between the out and the back... :D

Cool my first time organising a Fatass and I know it has some great running on it so will be good for all kinds of runners.
I thought it would be a bit short for most people to be interested except some locals like Plu and Paul Every so a very nice surprise with the people interested.

Would like to do it some time soon but need to keep away from a couple of races coming up and long weekends are not so good.

Will organise a test run with Paul/Bruce some time very soon to check it all out and get back to you all.

Of course, if you want to toughen it up a bit, you can start from Thornleigh Oval instead of Penno Park. The drop off the oval is reminiscent of Nellies, and it really feels like it when you're coming back up at the end of the run. I've done that a number times as part of 6ft or marathon training, twice after running a hard Strider's 10k at Lane Cove. That was ugly...  :D

Thanks for this thread. Got me to do a test run from home to Thornleigh Oval (where I have soccer training) and then ran down to the river and along it for a bit - 8 km plus run. Pending on the date I would be in - a night run would would be interesting as well.

Brick when you have managed to get all of these nice people 25km's away from where they have started how do you propose to get them back to Penno park again? or are you looking at a 50km run?

I think the course is 25km out and back...certainly the U-shaped elevation profile indicates it.

As said above this is a 25-26km round trip.
You can easily shorten it by 8kms by turning around at Lane Cove Road.

The only problem with that is you miss the nice part along the river and the water/toilets in Lane Cove Park.

Will add some profiles and Mapmyrun files later.

It is a superb run, did the last 4kms to the weir at lunch time, have a look at my Blog for more info on the last 4kms.
Will run Penno Park to Lane Cove Road tomorrow morning and add the profile and MapMyrun stuff tomorrow night.

My mother grew up on Candy (or Kandy ?) Ave Epping. I wonder if I could use this as a justification to run this course on the 9th May? :(

I asked my wife and she said it was OK.
I guess neither of us follow the hallmark days very well.

OK seems how it is mothers day I will pick another day.
Will talk to the boss again and get back to you.

Hard work organising a Fatass run. :(

I wondered what the reference to 'Mother' was all about! O well. I would have been happy to run on that day but probably wouldnt have a home to go back to :(

I had already written it in the diary.  Maybe I should add 'Mothers day' as well.

Keep up the good work Brick.  I will make every effort to turn up when it is organised.

I figure good training for the SMH HM, until I roll the ankle that is.

I'm not sure!

Is this thing well-signposted?  I think I would prefer to run from Thornleigh Oval as it's the official Great North Walk and is probably easier to not get lost.  :(

If you are worried about rolling an ankle, I would suggest starting and finishing at PH Park is a better option than Thornleigh Oval. The section along the valley floor north of the where the Canoon Road/North Epping/PH Park trails join the GNW is quite rough and rocky.

It's bush. Yes there are rocks and sticks and things.
That is part of the fun but no need to roll an ankle. I know the hill up to Thornleigh oval and nothing scary about it.

As I said before I will be running it Monday morning.
Could meet you at 6:00 just before the gates that enter Penno Park.
This has water and toilets so a good starting point.

Never started at Thornleigh Oval so can't help with that.

Some directions for the Penno Park start.
Start at the brick building on the left just before the gate entry. (Water/toilets available)
Run down main road in penno park.
Turn left at First Yellow arrow with coordinates on it.
Take next right at next ellow arrow with coordinates on it.
Follow track down hill.
At T junction turn left down short steep hill.
Up otherside go right. (Make sure you don't miss this on the way back)
Follow GNW track signs to Lane Cove Weir.

I met Paul Every at 5:30 this morning for a run problem is Paul started getting a pain in guts so turned around after only 2kms.
I just talked to Diane and he is in Hornsby intensive care with the docors not knowing what is wrong with him.
I thought at the time it might of been his appendix but he had that out at Christmas.

I did check with Paul if he wanted me to go back with him but he insisted that I carry on with my run and Diane mentioned that it only got worse by 7:30.
So good that he turned around when he did because we would of been in the middle of the bush at 7:30.

Hope all fixed soon Paul.
