I've entered as well. Need to wipe my Sydney Marathon PW from the records from last year.

I thought that you could only replace a PW with a new one.

I am in for the marathon. Firstly I was a 4hr pacer, then after a good run a Christchurch Marathon is decided I would have a crack at a PB, then another change of plan I have entered as 3:45 pacer as part of my training for Kepler Challenge

I'm in as the 3 hour pacer, sucker for punishment that I am.

Lets see if I can stay with you this year unlike 2007 when you dropped me going up City West Link. :)

You make me sound like a right heartless b*stard. Now that you reminded me what year I last did it, I just checked the results, 2.59.57 - not bad for someone who'd never run below 3 hours then.

Really want to enter this race, looks like a great half course.

Just need to find somewhere cheap to stay, as the drive down from Orange and dealing with Sydney traffic is a big turn-off. :)

There is a youth hostel in the Rocks at the foot of the Harbour Bridge steps, which would make a 1.5/2km warm-up to the start and a 1km walk from the finish. http://www.yha.com.a...sydney-harbour/
Before anyone turns their nose up at hostels, this is a brand new award-winning one with rooftop terrace with Harbour views.

Hi CR's

I must apologise for the time it's taken to get this task done but we'll have the new marathon course profile available on Friday afternoon. I'll put a post on CR when it's up online.

Cheers

I'm also in the half and looking at staying at one of the affiliated Accor hotels, most likely the Menzies as it looks closest to everything.

Anyone else stayed there, doesn't look too bad with 1pm late checkout for $150. (but an extra $40 to park the car. WTF !!!)

Might even let the lovely wife tag along, but will need to keep my energy up for the race on Sunday.  :)

Just entered, Bib # B06078. Aim for my first sub 2hr half.

I'm guessing that the bridge run's start waves are organized into groups of letters because my bib number is A35516,

Questions;
How many waves are there??
How long is the gap imbetween??
And how are the waves seperated???

By the grace of a higher power Sam will be on the line to do the 42. Not so sure about the new easier course, perhaps I was one of the few who liked that City West Link portion. Lonely, hot and a chance for the race to really start to mess with your head. After all what is a marathon with out the obilgatory head games in the last 10km.

I have found though greater resistence to hotter conditions through spensding more time in the sauna beforehand - also great for the recovery and the lungs.

Last year conditions were perfect nice and clear and not too warm - let's hope for much of the same this time round.

May you all have a good 6 weeks of sharpening and a solid run on the day!

This will be my second time running this marathon, I like to know what you guys think is the best part of the run, is it crossing the Harbour Bridge with thousands of other runners alongside you, is it running to the finish line out the front of the Sydney Opera House, or is it just cruising through the pack and listening to all the different conversations as you make your way home.

Hey Dickyboy,

First time full marathoner here. Have done 2 x half marathons in (1.28 and 1.23) and just did c2s in 57, so I am looking at joining your sub 3 pack. Look forward to joining the pack!

I am running the half and aiming for my first sub 2 - just wanted to get some info about the pacers. How are they identified at the start? Is the start self seeded with goal times marked? I ran the SMH half and found it quite difficult to know where to start from - didn't want to be too close to the front but not all the way at the back either.

Thanks for any advice.

The pacers have a green and white flag attached to their fuel belts with the time on it. They will stand at the distance back from the start line that their own experience tells them they should be at.

Sydney Striders organise the pacers for the half and marathon. Most are Striders but other runners mostly on CR do pace as well.

The new courses look great and whilst I had originally wanted to do the Mara, an ongoing Hamstring issue may see me tackle the half instead.

Always enjoy the Blackmores events. No greater finishing spot imo

just after a few thoughts- was training well for the six months prior to may half looking at a 1.45 before bronchitis struck the week before the race and ran a 1.55. have had four bouts over the two 1/2 months after it and just managed to shake it

just started running again over last two weeks- is it too much to do the sydney half in september- i had planned to do it before i got crook- now i am paranoid that I will get crook again. I know it wont be a great time but I think i need the challenge of an event :D

This will be my 5th time to participate during the Sydney Running Festival. I have been doing the half for three years in a row now but for this year, I decided to sign up for the Bridge Run instead.  No other excuses other than, I have been quite lazy training. I did the City 2 Surf last Sunday and was happy to keep the green bib for another year because I did not run at all since finishing the SMH Half last May. I was on the verge of giving up running but the finish last Sunday inspired me to just sign up again.   :D Let us see how it goes.

Good luck with the training Sammo! My only PB (I've only run one half) is 2.04 but I am training hard and ran the C2S in 77 on Sunday so hoping to crack 2 hours.

Hi All,

After a long hiatus after injury, I'm back  - well sort off. Given that I'm only up to 6km  and will probably only be up to 10km on race day (very slow 10% rule atm), I decided to volunteer.

So, if you get a well done CR at the finish line, that'll be me - I actually wanted a drinks station but when they heard I ran the marathon last year, they wanted me at the end.

I'll save my self for next year's race.

Hi there

Yes there are start three start groups each with their own letter A being the fastest and C being the slowest. They are not waves as such with a set break between them, the event officials managing each of the start groups will walk each group forward onto the back of the previous group as they empty from their chute. The A & B groups will start on South Alfred Street and the C group will start on Fitzroy Street (side street at top of Bradfield Park under the bridge). This will allow us to separate the crowds and better manage getting people into the correct chute. Start groups are separated by barricades which will be removed just before the preceeding group is emptying their chute, then marshals will manage the start from there. I've attached a map of the start area for you to review.

Hope that helps.

Regards
Wayne

Yes I'm staying here too with my other half. I'd love a sub 2hour as well but it's a big ask. Last year I did 2.10.

My bib number is C10036.
I entered ages ago. Did we have to nominate the time we thought we could do on the entry and that's how they determine the A,B or C.I can't recall.

See you on the day

Yondi,

Each group had a time range and you entered the one which covered your estimated time.

With a 2.10 result you should of entered in the B group.

The crowd are on the pitch - some think it's over .. It is now..

Sadly Sam got the news today that the injury is in fact a crack in the bone that is healing but no amount of cheating work will get me ready for 42k in 5 weeks. Have deferred and resolved to build fitness and aim for a few shorter events in November. According to the doctor I could give it a crack, but there is a chance the bone will be good, but also the chance it could crack through. I was only planning to run around 3.15 anyways so no drama if I miss out.

I will however be volunteering at the finishline and hope to be able to give a little back to the sport that has given me so much.

I wish everyone the very best with the last bits of training. Pay some heed to the Zatpotek syndrome when tapering. Don't worry about doing too much. Rested legs often perform the best. In fact I have always trained long and hard, but ironically did my best times on little or no training.

Good luck!

Hi All,

Long time lurker - first post :D

Have just entered myself in for the Half (hopefully sub 2:00) - really looking forward to running this course.

Any ideas on transport to the start - i'm guessing you have to avoid the bridge on way over?

Have just entered myself in for the Half (hopefully sub 2:00) - really looking forward to running this course.

Any ideas on transport to the start - i'm guessing you have to avoid the bridge on way over?

From Eastern Suburbs, bus to the city then train to Milsons Pt station and you are there. Or you can walk/run/jog over the bridge from the city. I'll be doing the bus/ train thing.

Hi CR's - just to save you some time in contacting us I've attached the number ranges for you to review what event / group you have been allocated. It is pretty easy to follow. The reason for the big gaps between number ranges is to give us some breathing room should we wish to extend a number range in a particular group. We try to spread the entrants over the three groups to spread people out but inevitably we do usually have a larger group in the middle.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks
Wayne

Hi Kocxy

You can submit previous best times in the event and if you've run under 35min (male) / 40min (female) then your in. Otherwise send in times you've done in 10k road races and if you've done under 39min (male) / 44min (female) (in the last 12months) then I'd put you in.

The form is available here.

Cheers

Question for Wayne...

Wayne,

Maybe not the best forum to raise this but over the past month I have sent 3 separate mails trying to volunteer my services for the 19th and so far have neard nothing in reply.

I don't mind if I'm not required, a quick note to say that would be fine.

Can you clarify whether all volunteers have been contacted?

Thanks,

Gerry
