Great event. I was trying to sell it to someone the other day. Not sure if I succeeded.

I ran 12.39 last year. Ran 92km instead of 90km just for fun.
My time last year for SFT was 4.58 and this year was 4.39. I am thinking multiply your SFT time by 2.6 -2.7 roundabout for a 12FT time. Depends a bit on a few other factors as well of course.
How does that sound fellow crazies who turn up for the 'out and back'?

Aug 7:
First Light 6:19am
Sunrise 6:45am
Sunset 5:23pm
Last Light 5:49pm
Doesn't look like much chance of a daylight start OR finish.
Is that some of the appeal? hrumph.

I recall starting with a light layer of ice on the rocks heading down to Nellies Glen. Bring some warm clothes too if you are not front of the pack runners.
Sounds like Frankie17 is in already and we still had months to work on you.

I think we back off the idea after he said "There are more interesting runs out there to do"!
But I am sure we all know he would have done it..

R2W - my times agree with you.
Frankie, last year's 6Ft took me 5:05, while 12Ft took me 13:27, so a multiplier of 2.65 (bang in the middle of R2W's estimation!). Mind you, I did take about 30mins at Caves House, changing socks, applying bandaids etc and waiting in the Cafe queue for a hot drink.
Last year, the much smarter Horrie got his torch out after crossing Cox's, while I ran on in faltering light until just on 6pm (11hrs in) when my Garmin started telling me it was low on battery. I stopped and got the 'lamp out then.
Although, if we have a full moon like last night, you'll only need a headlamp for Nellies stairs!

Long Arms: if you are up there it would be good to catch up for a chat, but with one eye on the course this time.
I supose I'll have to enter the C2S now or everyone will say I'm soft, only trouble is I hate the race ( too many people)

Only did it once in 2008. That year I did no prep for it other than road marathon training. Not the best prep and paid for it in the weeks following. Our 6ft times are fairly similar, so expect to be around 13 hours. I did outward leg in 5:29 with Milov and staggered home for a total of 12:49. Aim to pace around 5:40 on the outward leg and you should be fine.
With a bit of luck you might get someone driving out to the Caves. If so pack a drop bag. Otherwise use the shop out there. Thing I enjoyed was a drop bag down at Coxs River when I ran out. I left a jelly cup, chips, banana and cold drink. Works well on the climb back up.
In terms of cold, the year I did it, it was freezing. I still remember getting to deviation at 11am and there was ice still covering water that had pooled in pot holes on the road. The next day after we ran there was snow on Black Range. Be prepared for a potentially cold day. River wasnt too bad, but suppose it all depends on the 2 week lead up. Worst case scenario you use the swing bridge.
Hope this helps. I will now return into my shell. No running for 5 weeks makes for a frustrated runner.

I enjoyed this run last year. It is like a days hike in the mountains except you spend more time running.
Last year the temp went from 0 to 10 degrees, the sun was out and it was very pleasant.
Robimum (my wife) transported peoples bags of food to the caves. Also she met me at Caves Road on the way there and the way back. Something similiar will probably happen this year.

Hoping to show up for it again but it seems to be only 2 weeks after what may well be my furthest run ever. Might have to do the short version

Warm up for the most important race of the year C2S.

(I can be a pretender and run C2S!!)
Princess DJB did a 12.5FT last year and I am sure this year he is keen to keep it to the original route.
If history has anything to show, it will be another big crowd and also be another #@# cold day!!
A good day out with mates! Good Fun!!

I am in as Run2Work or John Robins or whatever is preferable in these events.
Hoping to finish in the daylight. Hmm that requires a sub 12 finish.

And it sure is a fun day on the trail.
Yes Dan I am in for sure, great lead up to Glasshouse.
Agree - Its easy math - If you can run a Sub 5 6FT, you can easily run 12FT in under 10 hours (+/- a few minutes more for pass through the small bump Nellies Glen)
Princess Dan is committing himself to GH already - So a 9 hours (*yawn*) is on his cards

Just for the record here are my 6FT/12FT runs. I have found that I run the first split to Caves house about 15mins slower than my 6FT race time. I don't think my 6FT efforts are run full out.
2007 - Six Foot 4:43 / Rebel 12FT 11:10 // injured knee before Aug 12FT - rode MTB
2008 - Six Foot missed due to surgery but ran 4:23 in training / 12FT 10:23/4:39 6FT split (ran sub 3hr marathon 2 weeks before = big taper)
2009 - Six Foot 4:19 (fell & injured my hip & back) / 12FT - unfit and only ran to caves
2010 - Six Foot 4:20 (unfit) / 12FT?? still unfit
Conversion 6FT time x 2.4 = 12FT

I'm in and the Ridler siut is coming out of mothballs for the C2S if I survive the return up Nellies Glen.

'High Hamstring Tendinopathy' is long enough to stretch from one side of the river to the other. And it sucks.
