Hi all,

Myself, Chunderbolt and CaptainSmeg are running from Baulkham Hills to the City and return on Saturday August 28, with an approximate distance of 100km

We did a 100km run this time last year (albeit different route ), and want to make it a yearly occurance for us non-ultra running mates. 100km once a year seems about enough for us!!! We are calling this run "Three Headed Monster 2010   ;) B)"

Any coolrunners or friends would more then welcome to join us, cross paths or say hi along the way!!

The route out will be via as many trails as we can string together through North Rocks, Pennant Hills, Lane Cove NP, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove.
Route back will via a slightly more urban route of Bay Run, Sydney Olympic Park, along Parramatta River, Parramatta Park, and back to the start ( Bull and Bush Hotel, Baulkham Hills).

We will put together some maps of the course, and as last year, we'd be more than happy to sms people when we approach and meet them along the way.

This will be in FatAss style with logistic details added to the FA website shortly.

Hope to be seeing you!

Should be interesting going through Parramatta Park late at night.

Or are you going to start early, early.

I will be in for part of the route either in or return depending on time commencing.

So no ice cream this year.

Sounds as though you're going to run past my house at some point, so may well be interested in the return leg.

Nice to see some early interest!!  Rod: not sure what transport options your looking for, but from the City, you can get an express bus back to Baulkham Hills ( via M2 so quite quick ). I will add link to Hills buses to FatAss page. I can also pick a few people up from nearby stations for the start if thats of use -  any single station between Parramatta > Seven Hills is fine by me.

Thomo- correct, no Coogee Bay Ice Creams this year are on offer!!!  The run via Parramatta Park may even involve a shortcut via Cumberland Hospital - though if they hear we did 100km just for fun, we be asked to stay.

Phoenix - PM me your street if you like, and I will make sure we put it in the route map!

Interested in the full run, I was going to be running in the other direction with Enduro that day so I have to consult with him first.

Hey Gogirl...I'd be keen to do this one on the 28th. I've always wanted to do a run from Baulkhan Hills to the city via the many Bush corridors that are around.

May I suggest, in order to continue the fine tradition of finishing at well known drinking establishments that we make the start-finish at the Bull and Bush? That way everyone will know where to go and we won't be publishing my address online.

I'm quite looking forward to running as far as my gammy knee will allow on the day.

I might come along for some of it. I have yet to learn my way around the trails, but regularly run home from redfern to north rocks along, parramatta rd or Pacific hwy/epping road. It would be nice to see how I can use non toxic running routes to do the same trip.
if i run, i will tie myself to runhard so he can pull me along.

Great! So we will have start times and more details a bit later on? I think the Bull and Bush is a great place to start/finish, right next to the take away bottle shop. :diablo:

Across the road from KFC & Red Rooster for the non-drinkers.

Coles & Wollies also across in the Shopping Centre depending on start time for last minute goodie top ups.

Just realised this is the same weekend as the Oxfam Trailwalker. My team didn't get in but I have registered to volunteer instead. Will see what pans out.

One of the reasons we did the monster last year, was that we wanted to do a "safe" 100km, but our team couldn't raise enough funds to get into Trailwalker.
When we were coming up with names, we considered "Poor Man's Trailwalker". However the abbreviation would have been "PMT"... :diablo:

It seems we can spend the hours "moving forward" discussing the outcome of the election!!  I am looking forward to this, and in my mind broken it down into a few phases:

Start to Hunters Hill - 80% is on trails, so looking forward to a bit of mud and creek jumping to get the day going
Hunters Hill to Harbour Bridge  - along the 7 bridges route, lots of parks, harbour views, and the goal of the city to keep me going. Probably will grab a nice coffee at Milsons Point or The Rocks to mark the occasion :-)  Followed by a pie for sustenance!!
Harbour Bridge to Concord - bit unsure about this - having not run it fully, I am not sure what to expect!!!
Sydney Olympic Park to Parramatta - nice, flat, interesting path. C-Smeg, Chunderbolt and I have done lots of training there over the last few years together, so it will feel very familiar!
Parramatta to finish...well the Bull and Bush is all uphill from Parramatta, so I will be gritting my teeth and getting on with it "moving forward" and phoning ahead to get a beer ready at the bar!!!

Harbour Bridge to Concord you could go though The Rocks, Barangaroo, over Anzac Bridge then link up with the Bay Run in reverse. Maybe go though Leichhardt Oval, the Home of the 1969 premiers.

Posted Image

Then around Canada Bay, though Massey Park Golf course (use to do that many, many years ago). Around Cabarita Park (nice West old met course, also have a CC certificate from primary school days) then Breakfast Point, then up to Concord Rep. Hospital. Cross over Concord Road to link up with Bicentental Park into Olympic Park.

Edit: To add I have ridden this course but not the part though Leichhardt Oval.

I am planning to do an out and back recce along the trails from Baulkham Hills up to Pennant Hills (via Bidigal Reserve)  if anyone is looking for trail run, doing approx 25km (out and back ) in close to 3 hours on Saturday 31/7.  I will be leaving the corner of Cook St and Park Rd at 2pm. If anyone would like a run, drop me a line.

On Sunday, I'll be doing the long slow slog into the city and out again, so that I can join the dots between the (7 or 6?) bridges, and the trek out of the city, towards SOP.
Also, I really need to get out for at least one 60-70 training run, as well as road test the configuration of gear.
I reckon once we have these under the belt, we'll have all the components to piece together the full map.

Good luck on Saturday!

After reading your race reports, (and already being a big fan of fruit), I tried switching to bananas for the second half of my 70k training run... felt so much better!
My normal recovery food is a lot of fresh fruit and veg anyway (although not a vegan - I always take on some animal protein as well).

I will definitely be on the fruit on the 100. :D

Thanks!

Last weekend i ran from Baulkham Hills to Milsons Point, and the course looks great!!! I also got to run with some cool runners at different points too - thanks Brick, Paul, Stewart, Grant and Marlz  :D

Thus, I have updated the FatAsspage with maps, gpx and course notes to get us from the pub to Hunters Hill ( which I am sure has another pub for those in need! )

Let me know if the links don't work etc etc.

Certainly does, http://www.huntershillhotel.com.au/

I have been past there many times when I lived in the Ryde / Gladesville area in my youth / 20's.

Thanks!

I simply can't believe just how many options for runs there are at the moment. I'd love to give this a go but will be away that weekend, had to leave town to avoid being 'drafted' into a Trailwalker team.

Seekrit altitude training in the hills south of Oberon  :D - don't tell anyone.......

Hi Ian, Marlon, Ben,

Three things, I would love to do your 100km with you having just done the UK Trailwalker in 15:26, we were on track to do under 13 but one of us got injured at 60km (the one who cycled and swam in preparation for the event) and we had to push him - literally, up the hills to finish.

I would recommend a site like justgiving (ours was: http://www.justgivin...m/letsrun100ks) to raise the money for trailwalker, it makes it very very easy, you just have to hassle everyone you know.

Are you doing anything this Sunday running wise. If so I would love to join, if not I was planning Woodford to Glenbrook x 2 (52km), up hill first then down hill. Or if you prefer I could organise transport for 6 foot track but would prefer the Glenbrook option.

Cheers
Mike

Hey Mike - thats a great time for TW!! I wouldn't come close to that!!  You'd be more then welcome on the 28/8 - we will have maps etc for the whole course done by the end of next week - you may need them as we may be a tad slow for you! Thats OK though - anyone who finishers early gets to order the beers at the end!!

Re this weekend, I am doing Adelaide Marathon - maybe Marlz is up for a run? (Ben should be resting that knee!!! )  I am really looking forward to this run - 100km, trails, Harbour Bridge, city tracks, close to home.....giddy-up!!

Howdy Mike. :D
I was planning to get out for somewhere between 40 and 50 on Sunday, and was half thinking of running over to Norwest shopping Centre for the social Norwest-M7 and then running home, but I haven't done the maths on the timing to get out there.

Otherwise, I might just run into the city and back. But I'm pretty happy to do anything, within my time-constraints... (just need to be home between 9 and 10am).

Hi Guys,

Sounds like this weekend is not going to be the time to meet. I am going to do the Glenbrook to Woodford as I mentioned and I am happy to provide lifts but I am not sure that a 10am return is realistic even with a very early start.  In any case one more weekend before the big event.  Whatever you are up to have an excellent weekend.

TW time is not that impressive, you just have to have an excellent support team and really keep your checkpoint times under control.  In our case I was the checkpoint nazi and despite this checkpoint 7 took 18 minutes, with the others being roughly 5 and the last two being less than one.  We walked most of the hills but really pushed the strides and just with that we would have easily come in under 14 but one of our team could not run at all for the last 20km.  Since we were all ex military doing it as a team was fantastic and I just could not believe how separated other teams got.  Team support was also key for us.

Good luck in Adelaide.

Mike
