Terry. What can I say.:D You really are a legend! Thank you for today. Thanks too for all the very very patient and tirless helpers.
I loved the trail. Especially the numerous crossings over magpie creek. That was gorgeous through there.
The whole event was great though on a personal note it felt super hard for me today. It is consistant with my horror year I have had. My own fault. I think I had better train. I am missing my running buddies.
Great run Jenny. I loved reading your blog. Thanks for looking after me at the end. I must have looked awful because you were so caring.
Terry sorry to leave you with all that work at the end. Kristian is only so patient after a long run. Call me if you would like me to do anything tomorrow. Does someone need picking up after dropping off the truck?

Wish I could have been part of it - have had bronchitis for two weeks and am only just now recovering. Looked like an awesome run!

Terry, You've done it again! Another first class event in perfect weather. Make sure you thank all your helpers. And those drink stations were always a welcome sight.
Arsenal, it was good to run with you untill you had to unleash the speed.
Backpacker, you are way too hard on yourself. Allow yourself a little satisfaction for completing a pretty tough run.
Em00, how did you and Liz finish up?

                     'I HAD A DREAM'

I have to admit that when I saw this image Martin Luther King came not to mind, but another quite famous song that I am sure you are familiar with.

So, in the spirit of 'The Rocker' (and of course not ever close to his class),  I thought I would share it with you, with a few minor amendments.

I have called it: "The Sea To Summit Race Director's Lament"

Being a Race Director can be bad.
There’s much to make you mad
When things don’t go quite according to your plan
But it’s being instrumental
In keeping alive the spirit of George Driscoll
And this’ll make things turn out for the best

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If running uphill seems rotten
There's something you've forgotten
That you really want a George Driscoll Sea to Summit key ring.
So when you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly ‘champs’
Just purse your lips and think of Driscoll - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

Being a Race Director is absurd
It’s running that’s preferred
You have to deal with every complaint it is true.
But don’t be taken in
Give each runner a grin
It’s them that are out there sweating, not you!

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Running can be shit
When you’ve had enough of it
And so long uphill worse, it’s true
But there’s something that you know
That keeps you on the go
If you weren’t out there running, that Race Director might be you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Only another seven hills and thirty kilometres to go, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose other than a few more kilograms?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

Thanks to everyone, volunteers and runners for making it all so memorable. Run report and results coming soon.

So are you saying, TerryC ... 'A race director's lot is not a happy one ... happy one'.

Hmmm ... that has me thinking!?!  :D

Race report also coming later, or not.  :o

Edit: My keyring is currently at the engravers.

Clearly, someone has got into the leftover lollies while procrastinating on removing half-empty water kegs and stacks of plastic cups from all over the lounge room floor....

(Not casting any aspersions on your housekeeping, I'm just envisaging what my place looks like when I bring home all the gear after an orienteering event!)

Many thanks to TerryC, the course markers, the volunteers, the Driscoll's, all the runners and walkers and anyone else that helped to put this great event together.

Like all of the other trail runs, this one also had a wonderful mix of trail types, terrain and scenery.  Just the concept of running from the coast to the summit of Mt Lofty is great and leaves all of my non-running friends thinking we must be crazy.  Like many others I think I found Magpie Gully the most enjoyable section and perhaps the long climb up Sheoak Road the least.

Here are a few more pictures from the day for you to enjoy.

In Brief

We run through the grasses and the scenery is stunning,
And we fall down on our arses as we hurtle down a gorge.
Through the bush we blunder, and still we don’t stop running.
We’re in a natural wonder and we owe it all to George.

I thought of you guys and gals as I drove past the "Runners on road" signs by the Blackwood Railway Station.  I was on the way to the start of my last long run before the Melbourne Marathon and in some ways I regret not following the advice of my personal trainer and going from the sea to the summit.  Maybe next year!!!

I'll do a proper job then if you want to blow it up. The Israelites in the background need running clobber for a start.

Actually I was sitting watching the idiot box last night and catching up on this thread at the same time, as soon as I saw MaidenMarathon's pic, I knew it was begging for a slight modification. Apologies to MM and Moses.

Sounds like it was a great event once again, I wish I had been there. Thanks for the great reports, pics, poetry and yes even your ode to RD's Terry.

It's the 10th running of the Walhalla 50k next year so, if the s2S remains where it is, as well as the PWT, and if Walhalla moves back to it's traditional slot of mothers day weekend, then I may just be there again to get myself one of these fancy keyrings I keep hearing about. (I need something to keep all my other key rings in order :D).

Well done all.

Chilli - I sent the two photographs to a friend in Sydney... MM's first followed by the your Moses picture as you scrolled down the email. He suggested that I had the order wrong - I should have presented the Moses picture first, but with the S2S runners removed from the foreground, then MM's picture as it is... the people have crossed the sea (gulf), the waters have returned and they are now ready to climb to the mountain top...

Whatever - it is a very funny picture that I have enjoyed sharing with my non running friends and with family.

Sea to Summit 2010

The bus trip seemed  long in duration,
But at least it was no longer dark.
With Dave’s navigation, to our consternation
We reached the wrong side of the park.

Up the first trail we proceeded,
Our goal  we hope’s  within reach.
Again we’re  impeded – but that was  exceeded
By the bottleneck back on the beach.

Many main roads we had crossed
And the pace had not really slowed
When much their cost, a few became lost
In the underpass under  South Road!

Out in a clearing  – I’m starting to fail.
Another creek crossing – am I still on the course?
I’m on a horse trail – I just may  prevail
As long as Tom Roberts arrives with his horse!

Just over half-way , I have to keep on,
Though I’m starting to feel a bit surly.
A bit further on, I can see  Father John
And his Church of the Chronically Early.

A waterfall  -  I must take a peek -
It’s never been there before.
What a cheek –this road’s a  creek.
Where’s my bleeding oar?

The route took us up a bloke’s drive.
Who we were, he just couldn’t guess.
His mood took a dive as more folks arrive
Past his trailer, now marked  “S2S”.

Now where the trail is steeply inclined
My legs are aching, and I’m almost spent.
It’s very unkind, but  the state of my mind
Suggests  I’m behind Arfadent!

Our troubles we try to transcend.
Up another steep hill now, and then...
We run round a bend and have to descend
And now we run up again!

Finished at last, our calves are quite shot.
In fact there isn’t a muscle that’s not.
I said that last year I wouldn’t be here
Again in this race – I guess I forgot!

Hey folks,
I am going to take the kids to Magpie Creek tomorrow but even after running it last week I have no idea where I was.
Did it start at about the 13k point?
