I just read the bit on the website that says that I have to pick up my kit from the city in the week leading up to the event, with no mention of being able to do this on the day.

I don't live in Sydney, and if I was able to find someone to pick it up for me (doubtful), then I don't know how I will get it from them in time for the race. Am I really unable to pick it up on the morning, or are they hiding that fact so that they don't have a huge rush of people trying to pick them up on the morning?

Last year you could pick up your race kit on the morning of the run.
I don't think that would of changed.

Just easier for the organisers if you can pick up before hand also less waiting in long lines to pick up your race kit.

Olmy,

I have a similar problem as I am out of town.

I spoke to the powers that be re: this matter and was strongly encouraged to get someone to pick the gear up for me or alternatively arrive very early on race morning.  I need to send my e-ticket/receipt to someone, send them into town and then get it posted.  Quite a fuss.

Personally, for the $135 entry fee I would have thought that postage of a bib and timing chip could be facilitated for non-metro runners.

The short answer is you can get the gear on race morning.

BP.

I am looking forward to this but the event kit pick up is crap!! I would have happily paid the extra $10 for postal.  I am from interstate and arrive too late on Saturday to pick it up and would have preferred not to worry about on Sunday morning.  City To Surf, Melb Marathon and Run Melbourne send out the kit.  Get with it organisers even if its for those outside Sydney CBD!!!

Actually there are sometimes other reasons (sponsorship) why you have to go in and pick up stuff.

Cities sometimes like to have you make repeat visits because they are sponsoring the run whether in money or kind in order to encourage visits.

I questioned this once years ago when the Melb Mara made you go in and got told it was due to City of Melb sponsorship and they wanted more people coming into the city more often.  ie a lot of people spend a bit once there.

not saying this is the case here, but could it be?

Not being from Sydney, does anyone know if there is parking near the 'race gear pick up' location.

I want to pick mine up on Saturday, before checking into the Hotel at noon.

You could park in the Domain car park, or there is some on the street parking around there. I would personally park at your hotel and walk if it's not too far away. I'm planning on walking in from Glebe - thats how much I don't trust the parking ease around there!!

Thanks, look like I will just park at the Menzies and walk over. Might even let the wife free with the credit card in the big smoke... :D

Is the location still over near the St Marys Cathedral ??

From where you're based, it's only a 10 minute walk.

For others, I'd suggest parking on Castlereagh St or Macquarie St. The Domain car park's expense and I don't fancy your chances of getting a park on Mrs Mac's Rd or in Darlinghurst.

What I normally do is park in Broadway shopping Centre Glebe (3 hours free parking) and jump on a bus to Circular Quay a quick 10 minute trip.

note, the racekit pickup is not at Circular Quay as in previous years, it is opposite Hyde Park just next to St Mary's cathedral. A train to St James station or (longer) walk up from Town Hall/George St buses.

race kit pick up is at Cook & Phillip Park (outside St Mary's Cathedral), not Circular Quay as in past years...

I drove there today at midday and had no problems finding a park on William street. It was well organised actually - I was in and out quick smart!
