Hi
Noticed in the US running mags (trail runner etc) there are lots of ads for novelty type runs - disney land/world marathons, halloween runs, various mud runs, rock n roll marathon, santa/ christmas marathons etc etc.

Just wondering whats around in Australia (not just QLD)?

Without getting into other disciplines (I.E adventure racing), I have heard of -

Mud run (North of Sydney)
Tough Bloke/Chick run (running and obstacles course - Syd and Melb)
Puffing Billy (race the train - Melb)
Race the Rattler (race the train - Gympie)
Skirt Chaser (5km run with girls getting 3 mins head start - Bris)
Hares and hounds - (various distances - Glasshouse Mtns)
Western Plains Zoo fun run (10.4km through the zoo at Dubbo)

I knows there heaps of quality running events out there, just wondering if anyone knows of others that "mix it up" a bit.
Cheers
Nathan

There's also Sweat vs Steam - racing a 150 year old paddle steamer along the banks of the Murray River in Echuca.

For the first time we played with the Devil part of the name and a few folks obliged by dressing up.
-------
The next Two Bays Trail Run, due to the holiday season and location.. and my fondness for boardshorts, we are having a preferred start for anyone wearing boardies, swimwear or hawaiian shirts.

There is also the Variety Santa Fun Run.   It was held the first time here last year - running down George St, Sydney in a full, felt, santa suit - great fun!  I'm hoping it's on again this year.

Next year's theme will prove much more popular with everybody on a bender. :Talking Ear Off:

When Adelaide first hosted the F1 Grand Prix in 1985 my athletic club had a 2 mile grand prix race around a cinders track. Each competitor had to do two pit stops to change their shoes. The second time the buggers tied the laces together! I took about a minute longer than normal.

There's the annual Beer Mile in Brisbane. and there's the Beach Bash at Bribie.  I read years ago that there's an undie fun run in NZ, and I remember a thread about a nudist run years ago.

Unfortunately I've only done the Bribie beach bash, but I did do the relay one year in a hula skirt, with two hula babes, competing against a team of cops and robbers.

Not sure if this is themed. But see what the winner gets.

I red about a 'poker run' that always appealed. Basically, an ultra, and at each checkpoint you get a card or something, and you can trade with runners and bribe and all sorts of shenanigans, and the winner at the end is the one with the best hand.

Of course, the hash house harriers have the annual Red Dress Run just before Christmas, and I believe there's a run across the mud flats early in the new year.

That's been a staple of hot rod runs (cruises around the countryside) for decades.  Interested that someone had taken the concept to a semi competitive hobby like running.

Does anyone know if this stair run still takes place? I looked on google a while back and it seemed like it stopped (and never re-started) during some reno work?

I'm doing this! I am VERY VERY new to running (as only 5 weeks into a c25k program) and I was looking for something that wasnt going to be too hardcore for my first attempt at an event and this just looks like awesome fun!!

Some of the Unusual Runs I have heard of recently are Cupids Undie Run held on 10th Feb this year at Barrangaroo Sydney. A 1.5k Run in Underwear.
http://www.barangaro...e-run-2013.aspx

The Little Black Dress Run http://www.mardigras...dress-run-2013/ held on 23rd February in Sydney

On this Friday 22nd March will be GIO Youngcare Budgie Bolt http://www.youngcare.com.au/budgiebolt Darling Harbour 7am.
A 5k run in Budgie Smugglers with the Women also wearing tops.

There have also been some Fun Dress Up Days at parkruns around the country for Halloween, Christmas, St Patricks Day and on other significant days.

The Color Runs are also popular too
