Welcome to the inaugural meet of the Australian Snow Shoe Association to be held at Lake Mountain - Victoria on Saturady 4 September. The event will be an informal Fatt Ass style ru,n over a 6 /12km course commencing at 11.30 at The Camp and the start of the Jubilee Trail.

Event details
Instructions for the day – 4 September Lake Mountain
1) Off mountain meeting spot and car pooling – also a great place to buy lunch – Marysvile bakery - 0830
2) Pre race meeting 1000 at the snow gauge at the top of the echo flat trail. Allow ½ hour to snow shoe up from Gerraty’s car park
3) Race will start at The Camp 1130 - at the start of the Jubilee trail
4) The run will be either 1 or 2 loops of the Jubilee Trail distance 6km/12km. This is a black XC ski run with steep ascents and
descents - excellent for getting a feel of snow shoe running
5) Runners must avoid running in groomed trails and give way to skiers
6) Use of Stocks / poles during the actual race is not permitted for safety reasons
7) Participants will need to carry, as a minimum, the following safety equipment with them. They may drop a pack at the race start but must carry the following;
a. Waterproof / windproof jacket and pants
b. Spare jumper / polar top
c. Hat , gloves,
d. Whistle,
e. Personal 1st aid kit, toilet paper, sunscreen, sunglasses
f. Water, food. NB there are no food toilet stops on the mountain beyond Gerraty’s
8 ) Footwear - Runners are fine – preferably Gortex. If participants do not have this then use a plastic bag inside runners or use
walking boots. Bring spare sox’s. Wear stretchy clothes.
9) Post event people can stay out for lunch and explore the trails – there are 30km of trails at Lake Mountain or return to Gerratys and
the restaurant complex.
10) Meeting places will be identified by a laminated Australian Snow Shoe Racing Association sign and lots of people wearing snow
shoes

So can someone who is "running fit" turn up and have a go without prior snowshoe experience? Or is it too specific a type of fitness/skill?

Unfortunately this has had to be postponed- the forecast for LM is for rain and icy conditions which probably isn't ideal for absolute beginners. We'll wait for the powder, so if you're keen to be part of this race, send us an email so we can put you on a mailing list to let you know when it's on.
