Hi coolrunners, Have searched without luck. Does anyone know what time is required on a certified Half Marathon Coarse to earn preferred start for C2S. Thankyou

I tried this year with my SMH Half time(83:34) to get preferred at C2S and was told unoffocially(no written evidence) that I needed to run a sub 82 half to get a C2S preferred start.
I did sub 55 on chip time at C2S this year so I should be ok for next years race.

Well done superflake. Seems C2S is the best Race to get preferred for C2S. 80min Half seems considerably harder than 55 C2S. Thinking I will be SH1 untill   ??????? :Shame On You:.

The funny thing is that you need a sub 56 C2S to get a preferred start in the SMH 1/2 or a sub 85 in the previous year but then it doesn't work the other way :Shame On You:
I'd rather qualify by getting the sub 55 anyway.

Yep funny set of rules eh? I got the same "sub-82" email back - which I think is a little bit strange, as there's no compensation for the extra distance (7kms) of a half-marathon ... maybe the logic has to do with the hills

BUT

I also know someone got in to preferred with a 39:06 10km race, so I think they're just sticking to very basic maths. Works for me though as I just missed the cutoff this year with 55:09, having run out of the green group and hence around 10,000 people!

Good luck  :D

I heard once on this forum that a sub 40 in the run 4 fun gives a preferred start to the City to Surf?

I'm keen to see if I can get to qualify for a preferred start from the red group. I think that would be a respectable achievement at age 48. I managed 58:06 last year.

.....

Different sized preferred groups, so different hurdles to get in.

Sub 40 for the girls, sub 36 for the boys, although some have managed to ge tin on 36.xx I suspect it will  be tighter in 2011 given the over subscription this year.

Yes, qualifying from the masses is the most satisfying.  Why not at 48?  There are a few of us hanging in there!

Yep, a preferred start is achievable from the C2S masses. Got my first preferred from there and I was over the moon. I attempted on a few occasions through 10km runs and didn't quite make it. So it made me more determined to achieve the goal. If you can get there early enough to start close to if not right at the front of the red group, you'll be just behind the preferred starters and should get a good start. Good luck for next year. cheers

I'm not sure they'll tighten it up - from memory it's about 500 or places, I ran 55:09 and came 525th, so seems about right.

Yep get there early (7ish)  for Red and won't make much difference at the start. Main attraction for me of getting into preferred is so I can sleep in an extra hour AND not be crushed, have to risk last minute toilet breaks etc etc!!

I have never run a C2S so have no 'before' time to go from. But, is there a cut off to get into S1 (as opposed to full preferred) based on a half or 10k?

You will walk it in with  a sub 40 Striders 10k... now, there is some motivation!

Thanks Steve - that certainly is some motivation! Though, I just have to actually do the sub 40 ha! Don't think it will be in Feb, but there's a whole year ahead!

More seriously, does that mean that there is a certain time I could use from a Half or 10k (do Striders count?) to get into the SH1 section? If so, do you know what time? Or, can you just select that category (without a particular qualifying time) when you register?

Would a sub 40 10k get you into full preferred? Again, would a Striders time count?

Cheers, Scott

G'day Scott
All the Striders 10k certainly count, as do the SMC 10k - basically any "certified" course will do the job.

In the past, any result (on a certified course) that demonstrated (preferably more than once) that you will go comfortably in the 60's would get you into the pack right behind the preferreds. Tick the box for you there.  To get a preferred requires a 35.xx for blokes, and sub 40 for the girls (sub 80 half also works).  However, I have to qualify everything with "there is a new management team, so rules may change".

So ,you have until the SMH Half in May to get your qualifiers together - entries open right after the half and you want to get your entry in asap as most can now enter online with auto qualifiers (from previous C2S/SMH Half/Homebush 10k) so groups will fill pretty quickly. That is 4 Striders 10ks, 3 SMC 10ks, and the SMH Half... plenty more options about!

cheers
Stephen
