Hey Kevin,

Thanks to you and the 6FT team for the great work getting it all to this point. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly tomorrow morning.

At the risk of sounding like a complete moron, can I ask for a clarification please? The detailed entry procedures state "All entries will be online via our entry page." Can I assume that there'll be a link to this "entry page" from the "2011 Race Info" page? And/or is there still an intention to email everyone on the newsletter list a link? Normally I'd be happy enough to search around till I found it, but given how quick places are likely to fill tomorrow morning...

Thanks Kevin,
Vince

Hi Vince (and anyone else interested),

This is the RD

I specifically asked Kevin to remove the link until we deactivate system. We have kept it in 'testing' mode to give us as much opportunity to look for any areas where options are confusing etc.
We don't want people clicking on the link yet or making test regos. There is no point in doing so until we go 'live' at 9am tomorrow.

Yes, that was made clear in the email on Sunday night. Once we have the system 'deactivated' we can give you the link so you can bookmark it - i.e. you can click on it but not able to do anything until we 'activate' it at 9am.

I have also made every endeavour to have all the info I feel you may have doubts about on the website, the step by step detailed online instructions, the emailed newsletters etc.

I won't be inclined to respond to any email or CR post that enquires about something for which the information is clearly on the website or been given in newsletters. Please make sure you check there first.
I get a lot of emails (and will get much more tomorrow), for which the information enquired has been given.

Good luck.

Thanks for the update RD, you guys are doing a sterling job in keeping the public informed!

As for me, tested the system, signed up for the emails, alarm set for silly o clock to ensure I am in the office by 7:45 Brisbane time!

Now time to put away the fat fingers and hope I am one of the lucky 320.

Hopefully this time tomorrow I will be singing "Ive got a golden ticket"

Hi RD,

Thanks for the clarification(s). You guys are doing a great job under trying circumstances. If only there weren't so many of us keen to get entered in your great race.  :D

Cheers,
Vince

But what about if I am sitting in a smoke filled room with a pirate patch over one eye and squint with the other eye?  Will it still be clear?  Sorry,  my evil twin jumped on the keyboard and took mirth at other's pain.  Bad dog!  Link received via email and all good.

What I can't see on the info, is the time span entry's are open.

Is it:

-Shut down at 900 or 950 entrants?(So, we all have to rush)

or is it open for 24 hours or more, so we don't crash the system in our rush?

As far as I can see that bit is still TBA for other Veterans.  320 slots plus waitlist for Novices. 48+ hours for Guaranteed.  Which category are you Digger?

Colin will send out an email later, but my understanding (could be wrong...) is:

-guaranteed runners will have entries open for 24hrs (reduced from 48hrs)
-novices have a quota and their entries will be closed when the quote is filled
-veterans have a quota and their entries will be closed when the quote is filled

So for most people there is still an advantage to be online at 9am.

The race director of course reserves the right to amend the procedure if we get an extraordinary number of runners in any one category to make it as fair as possible to all.

If ther server/application crashes a 9:01 because it ran out of memory or a similar type of problem, send me a PM.

I have a team of performance test experts working for me right now and we only charge $2000 a day + GST, oh, and 1 free 6-foot entry :D

Only  joking, I am 100% sure everything will be fine based on the way things have been handled thus far.

Was published before in an email to newsletter subscribers.

900 or 950 does not matter, that is only our back end managing of the numbers. The race limit is still 850. I don't think we will be publishing a 'counter' as last year. Creates too much drama.

I think 24 hrs is enough for system not too crash. At peak last year I think we got 200 in hour.

As Kevin said the Novices and non guaranteed vets are 24 hrs or less if their limit is reached. Guarantees have 24hrs irrespective of amount (subject to overall race limit of course).
Limit for novices is 320, provisional limit for 'non guaranteed vets' is 360 and 'expected' amount of guarantees is 220 = 900, if it goes higher then that's where our slack up to 950 comes into play and if lower then  'non guaranteed vets' are higher, so they could be say 410

Less than 30 minutes to go.  Who else is more nervous than race day?

Me.  I'm nervous.  Even though I am on a fat pipe to the internet, can type 100 words a minute, have memorised my credit card number and drugged up on caffeine so that I can type faster.  At least it is not 4.30 in the morning (like Kepler).

And I predict that it will sell out in under 2 hours.

I'm so nervous, it's like I'm tapering... instead of trying to get an entry into a race!

As long as it does not sell out in 10 minutes or crash the rego site I should be good.  There are a few more spots than Kepler so that should help.

Registered and hopefully not too late! I kept up with the refreshes. This may be the OCD in me but did anyone get to click the link at 9 on the dot or was it just a few minutes after?

Thanks to the RD and all the guys that are helping host this.

Now I play the waiting game!

Registration confirmed, so let's see. Nervous 12-minutes though, which involved shouting at the kids who were climbing all over me. Best go make it up to them now  :D

Hope it went smoothly for everyone else.

I got in just, but it didn't appear that the link was up and running till about 9.10am, even though I have superfast internet and had my finger on the trigger before 9am. Obviously a massive lottery.

What a farce.  Try to get on a 9am, can't get access to the website (something about proxy servers) then I finally get access at 9.15am and it's sold out.  Can't find any link to a waitlist either.

Everyman and his dog has entered 'just in case'? You lot are unbelievable ... It's all the CR BS that goes on about this perfectly great run that has set this situation up. You've turned it into a circus when it doesn't have to be. I'm more than disappointed, i'm just totally crapped off

Took ten minutes to open the registration page - had me worried but have signed up for number 2. I don't run fast but lucky I can type fast! Good luck to everyone with the training and staying injury free.

I had the same problem - I kept trying to login with a little box flashing 'waitlist now availalbe' but I wasn't able to get on the waitlist somehow.  Never mind, I first registered my hubby (we decided it was really his turn this year) as I didn't want him to miss out and then went back to regiseter myself on the off chance I could get in.

I can't imagine how much work it must have been for Colin to organise this scrum at 9am - good work on managing it as well as you have!  For feedback, I kept trying the link from 9am but the website must have been a bit overloaded - it just wouldn't go through or timed out.  When I did get on there were no probs for my first registration, and then the above problem for the next one.

Well that's a crap experience right there.

I got stuck on page 2 of the registratrion for veteran.  It told me again and again to enter a shirt size, but there was no shirt size field available.

I HATE when people don't test the software they are releasing, especially for something as important as this.  I missed out.

A wise person once told me that "expectations may lead to disappointment".

The number of places for 1 to 4 finishes veterans is only known after the number of guaranteed entrants has been confirmed.

If you're one of the first 300 veterans then you have a very strong chance of getting in, but after that, things aren't so certain.

The theory is if it asked for your CC details then you have a spot.  If you got some details in but did not have to supply payment you are waitlisted.

You will most likely get a receipt from ActiveNetwork that says
"Confirmed Entry". This is routine, indicating that you have
successfully registered but may not necessarily mean that you are an
accepted entrant under the entry limit. We will confirm this by bulk
email and will publish a list of entrants as soon as we can."

That's what I was thinking.

Either this race is going to be a phenomenal success, or the poor organisers are going to spend the next 2 months dealing with a truckload of withdrawals

I keep refreshing the registration page just in case there is a glitch  :D

I got in just, but it didn't appear that the link was up and running till about 9.10am, even though I have superfast internet and had my finger on the trigger before 9am. Obviously a massive lottery.

Same boat server down til 9:10 - told me to go to the waitlist - but no link.

Has everybody who can just entered for the hell of it? Has anyone else had trouble getting on? Is it really full or has there been a glitch somewhere?

Yes Ponder, i thought so too but appears not, i can't even get past putting in my email addy. I know many others will be disappointed too but i'm frankly more p'd off about the carry on here on CR in the last few years that has made getting into this run a bloody joke. Colin & co have gone all out to make it as fair as possible and i was reassured with the new entry criteria etc that if i didn't sign on at crack of 9am that it'd be Ok. Of course everyone wants to have a crack, unfortunate that the entries have to be capped but really, if all the CR 'jocks' just corked it and stopped posturing ... I'm just angry and obviously ranting sorry

Remember all the angst last year and then everybody that wanted a run ended up getting one.  Probably best not to jump to any conclusions and see what develops.

Surely theres a way for people to still keep on entering.  It was soooo slow you couldn't even log on.

WTF it's telling me entries are full!

Absolutely spewing!!!! Tried to register three people this morning, one who is going for his 12th race in March. Was on ready at 9am, link didn't work for many minutes more, then it kept defaulting me to Guaranteed entrant (which I'm not) and wouldn't let me click anything else. While I'm stuffing around trying to change that setting, all the spaces have been fillled - even guaranteed entries for my mate - by 9:12am!

Update: now on waitlist.......mate will be doing 12th next year!

I keep refreshing the registration page just in case there is a glitch  :D

I got the entry page, added my details and then it got to the "activities" page and seemed to get stuck on the "Please select your race T-shirt or singlet preference" bit. I logged in on another computer and was told its already full.  So now I gave no idea if I got in or not!
