Starts 7am, Mon 27-Dec-2010, starting at Reid's Flat, Audley in the Royal National Park.

yes I know its a monday and very close to the Black stump run, but I figure a lot of people will be off work and looking to hit their training hard after xmas day and boxing day.

so I am putting on a new run - the awesome audley. I will keep the course under wraps until closer to the day, it would be described as "very testing, adventurous, for experienced runners" but definitely very runnable for the fit athlete (it does not go on or near Lady Carrington Drive at any point). It will be marked where reqd. There will be a couple of shorter options for the weak-hearted.

Shame we can't do the Monday, I was looking forward to giving this one a go.

Lining up the bmmc bus. Had a ball at O2B last year. Two questions in terms of selling tickets on the pre mentioned transporter, 1 will this run have swimming oportunities during or after and 2 is there anywhere as good as that cafe we had lunch at last year near the finish? Get excited by bmmc field trips like this.

Hi Kevin, I don't need to know the actual course, but I will just have to plan for the day and know quite soon when I'll be back home. Could you give some hints about distance and options, if several? I can wait a bit more... it's just a reminder to not keep it under the wrap till the 27th :D

Scam - there is a creek that is ok for a dip at the finish. The full route traverses at least 6 of the best beaches in the area so some great opportunities for water fun.

No Indifference - the full route is approx 32km. I am a bit of a plodder (5h 40m at last years six foot) and would imagine I will be out for 4-5hrs. So with a 7am start I would expect to be finished by approx noon. Obviously I have no idea about your speed. I will ensure that the short options are called out, the first being approx 16km but there are others that cut off progressively less.

Sounds great Kevin. I do not have much idea about my speed as I haven't run that much since I am back, but for that distance I would expect around 4 hours, if the climbing is limited - by the way, what should we expect for that variable of the equation? Not trying to get the whole surprise, but almost :D

One thing that I would be interested in would be to start earlier though. At this time of the year I like to start running when the sun appears, which would mean I would be much happier with a 6am start... Would you be able to make it? What is the rest of the crowd thinking?

Till there, happy runs!

I loved spending the 27th on the Gorgeous Garie with you last year - can't think of a more gorgeous route than that one, but I'll trust you that this one is also fab. AO is definitely a possibility for our crew.  I'll stay tuned!

By the way Kev (sorry for one more question), what are the rules for Fatass at the moment? Just wondering if they evolved or changed since a couple years ago... Shall we just come with a waiver form filled out and that's it?

@everyone: I am interested in carpooling from Greystanes. Is anyone going from around there?

If this is even close to as much fun as the GG last year, it'll be a fantastic day out.

PinkSkirt has opted not to run this year and so I'm hopeful that I can hitch a ride to the start with someone coming from Sydney.  If it's a possibility, please PM me.

The good news is that she'll be meeting me at the finish with a post run feast and some ice cold bevvies :D to help with rehydration.  We would gladly offer up a seat at the table to anyone kind enough to give me a lift.  :D

I have put up some more info on the website:
http://www.coolrunni..._Awesome_Audley

including a course map

Given that its quite far south, and there might be people coming from the far west, I would prefer to keep it a 7am start. I hate runs where you have to leave home at 4am.

Quote

yes, there is definitely a few shorter options. I might move the map to mapmyrun instead of googlemaps as it shows the distance better. happy to have you along. Let me update the map with a couple of key short options

yes

if you can bring a waiver that would be cool. I will have some on the day for people to complete.

Nice course JK. We did about 20km of this trail (Warumbul Rd to coast and return) this morning and the track is in good condition although it is getting a little overgrown between Winifred and Anice.
You will need to arrange a cooler day and a decent breeze though.

Some of the other sections are on tracks that are not visible by google, but are great tracks. Some other tracks are quite hard to see (but there is no risk of coming off track). Obviously some beach, sand, mud running due to the low tides, and a bit of rock scrambling.

Awesome Kevin, thanks for the GMaps trace and the form. I have converted it to GPX format for those who will use a GPS - see attached file.

I understand about the time... I guess I will have a lie-in on the 27th then and have fruits instead of worms for breakfast :D

I have put the map into MapMyRun now. and marked the route better - comes out at 36.01km and includes a very funky elevation graph in their beta mode.

The best short route (approx 16km) would be:
Run the main route with everyone for 7km. Take the easy exit onto Maianbar rd, follow road back to the 29km route, then complete the rest of the route (the first 5km is the same as the last 5km so easy to re-trace the route). I will draw another map.

That's a great run you've put up Kevin! I won't be surprised if it becomes as big as the Black Stump or Otford to Bundeena.

Unfortunately I'll be working on that day, so won't be able to make it (unless I start very early).

Have fun!

If you want to see it online, just go to Kevin's link

If you want to upload the file on a GPS Navigation-enabled device, it will either be able to read the GPX file I provided by default, or import it, or you will have to convert it in the required format... What model of device do you use?

Find some info here:
https://forums.garmi...read.php?t=4514

If you have a Garmin Connect account, apparently it does support the GPX format import since 2009:
"GPX Support
Upload data from Garmin outdoor handhelds and other manufacturers that support the .gpx file format."

Garmin Training Center software also supports it...
http://www8.garmin.c...ails.jsp?id=835

Good luck!

Hi all, I'm keen for this - I love the Royal National Park.. thought last time I was in there I popped my ankle.. let's hope that doesn't happen again.. grr!!

I've not worked out how to print a mapmyrun map yet but I assume this is what we should bring along with us in case we have trouble 'finding the way'.. ??

KT, have you any idea how many runners will show up?  I'm keen on a slow plod and was hoping there might be a group I can tack on the back of...??

Have a good Christmas boys and girls.. see you on the 27th.

Paulie -
I hope to add to the full course description tonight, this is going to be of most value.
The map is valuable, and I will try to post as a pdf for easy printing.
I have no idea how many people will turn up, maybe a dozen, maybe more ? I am a slow plod and happy to take it slower.

Hey Kev, just found out there is a chance for me to join you. Still not 100% sure, hopefully will make it.

Had another look at the map... Last time I ran section 5 (earlier this year I think) it was very overgrown - I hope they've cleared it out a bit. Between 5 and 6 it's on the road, right? I've never ran on the water from Maianbar to Bundeena, so will be interesting. I see you didn't include the Sandy track from Bundeena to the Coastal Track - that's very nice of you!

I can scan the relevant section of the RNP topo map and upload it on the web site if you think that may help - let me know.

Hi, had a look at the GPS file and the route goes off into the ocean on mapmy run. It's the first time I've downloaded a route to the GPS. will the route be accurate on the GPS despite the mapmyrun map showing it going off in the ocean??

Edit - ignore on "terrain" view is shows the route as being on the beach.

The main road in the park is open 7x24 but the boom gate at the entrance Reid's Flat (approx 2km from Loftus entrance) is closed overnight. The advertised opening hours are 7am-8.30pm but in summer it is approx 5.30am to 9pm. You need to pay $11 per access to the RNP if you don't have a pass, but the toll booths will be closed on arrival for the start (you just drive straight thru). If you feel honest, you can buy a ticket at the toll booth on the way out or at the Visitor Centre. If there is an inspection during the run you will have a note under your windscreen asking you to pay and you just pay the $11 in person or online within a week or a month. If you don't have a note then you can drive out if you are dishonest.

Note: I hear that a local legend will be doing a 24km option, feel free to join them.

It might be nice, if the day is nice, to bring a nibble, and a cold drink and wait for the tail-enders to finish instead of just rushing off.

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone who makes it to this run would be interested in a Garmin Forerunner 205 in pretty awesome condition that I have no use for anymore since my smartphone has duplicate functionality...

I posted a description here: http://www.coolrunni...showtopic=30126

Please make an offer by PM if you are interested.

See you on the trail on Monday!

How is everyone weather-wise?

Detailed forecast for now says the morning will be mostly sunny and cool - temp in the lower twenties turning to drizzle in the afternoon.

For me that is a very nice running weather. I hope it will not discourage anyone!

I will bring along a number of copies of the instructions which are most valuable.
The map (my version of the pdf) is a bit scant on details. I may bring some of these.
As always, BE PREPARED TO BE SELF-SUFFICIENT
ie I might run out of maps, you might want yours in a bigger font, my printer might screw up ....

Kev, I have printed some copies of a more detailed map, I will bring these tomorrow. Will even highlight the route on for our mountain friends to ensure they make it back in one piece.

See you all in the morning!

Never mind a map of the run. Just realized the run involves going off the M4. We may never find the start.

I'll have to send my apologies. I was really looking forward to it but I've been up all morning with a newborn with gastro who is showing no signs of running out of supply.

Enjoy the run.
