Put a place holder in your diary now for August 14.

Honouring an agreement and after a 7 year hiatus I'll have one more crack at a sub-60.

One more sub 60 or first under 60 mins?

I would love see you cruise under 60.

Well if you both live near each other, then you can keep each other honest.

Should get Horrie in on the sub 60 goal as well.

Strangely enough we do, and often wave as we pass each other going the other way

I intend to be back, definately to improve my time.

I was greatful for the sms messages of encouragement I recieved while running. They made me smile and keep going. B)

I was disappointed to finish slower last year than when I walked it entirely in 2000.I also didnt talk to anyone in the 11hours away from home so it was a long, lonesome, queuing, disappointing experience, which also highlighted the many wonderful previous experiences with many family and friends that I was missing this time.

I thought that maybe this run wasnt the one for me as some others also think and avoid, but I cant end my City To Surf experience and what was my 10th one and should have been something to be proud of on such a low point. :)

Just like Thomo I want to improve on the times of a couple or a few decades ago at least by a few.
With a best time of 83.08 in 1979 and a worst time of almost 3 hours there is lots of opportunity to minimise the gap between once upon a time.I will decide whch specific time I will be targeting closer to the time.
Today the goals would be to do it in under 2 hours and to make sure I have arranged to meet up with others. So hopefully City to Surf 11 in 2011 will be something to celebrate  :)

Bondi Hotel is usually a safe bet to find Coolrunners after C2S.

Hope to narrow the gap between race time (minutes) and age (years)

Widest  gap in 1983: 20.43.  (Time 57.78; Age 37.35)
Closest gap in 2009:  4.88.    (Time 68.23; Age 63.35)

As I get older, I look for more targets to manipulate.  :)

Closing in on 60mins. Went out too fast and flagged across the top.

I hope to pace better this year and make up the half-minute.

I might just slipstreeam behing you if that's ok.  67 the last 2 years, with the most recent following cycling to the city before the run and having done a decent run on Saturday.  Wasn't too bothered with my time but then my brother went and posted a 66.xx.  So sub 65 as a minimum goal.

Does anybody know if the start groups will remain unchanged from the 2010 model or that posted below from Coolrunnings for 2009? Doesn't seem to have been updated on the website yet.

  • Seeded Runner - Elite runners and by invitation only
  • Preferred runners - A finishing time number under 55 minutes. See this forum thread regarding qualifying standards
  • SH1 - Sub 75 minute finish - Red Bib numbered 1-8000
  • SH2 - Sub 100 minute finish - Green Bib numbered 8001-16,000
  • Blue Start - First in basis with a limit of 24,000 - Blue Bib numbered 16,001-40,000
  • Back of the pack - Yellow Bib numbered 40,001 onwards

I always seem to enter so late I am in a start group that starts hours (perceived not measured) after the first runners.

I have been considering what time to aim for this year. Decided on a slightly scary 62 minutes.  :)

All I have to do is keep the injuries at bay....loose about 3kg's.... hill training.....do more k's......have the perfect day......and maybe.......

This will be my first year racing with a red bib. Hope to retain for next year is the first goal. Anything around 70 mins would be great as it will be only about 5 weeks until the Sydney Marathon. Thinking an easy jog back is on the cards for a long run day of 28 or so k's. Anyone in???  :)

Cheers
Andrew

Annoyed at last years result of 60:03, so want to comfortably break the 60 min mark this year with some more hill and speed training.

Gluck training everyone :)

Probably too early at this stage to know the groups. I'd say the seeded; preferred, sub 55; SH1, sub 75; SH2, sub 100; Blue groups will remain unchanged.
In 2009 they only had yellow group as the tail end, but in 2010 they had yellow and brown. If the trend continues whereby the entrant numbers continue to grow, then there could be a 3rd group (Yellow, Brown, Purple?)

Last year they opened up in May sometime. The Preferred and the Red group filled up fast, as did blue.

Looks like you're on the money Gento! The organisers return emailed this not long ago:

Hi Simon

All things City2Surf are yet to be 100% confirmed however yes it is likely all groups will remain as they were in 2010.

Thanks

Syd mara for me as well, so 28km would be good (if I can do without the BO spray, new shirt and the cold gear), but there is always the lure of a diet coke or 2 and catch up with CRs afterwards at the pub.

Decisions Decisions.

Good advice.

I have since emailed and got the very specific answer:
"Entries always open around the end of May so keep your eye on the website closer to this time."

I think I will resort to putting some reminders in my calendar from mid-May and hope that I this helps me not miss the sub-75min group.

Yes it was. It was also a week earlier (well 6 days) than this year which is the 14th August. Which was what the question was asking :)

Matter of interpretation, I've read the question about it being a week later as had it moved to the third Sunday in August.

I'll be in again this year for my 6th city2surf. In previous years ('02, '06, '07, '09, '10) i've walked the distance with just a few very short jogging intervals last year but this will be the first year for me to be predominantly (if not entirely) running. Last year was a PB (at 2:38:43) of over 20minutes but this year I expect that I should be able to finish well under 2hours and hopefully closer to the 90minute mark. There is still a long time between now and August though so like Ayla, i'll have a better idea closer to the date.

I'm in.  :)

It will be at the start of my whirlwind round-the-world trip! I missed last year due to injury (not to mention being on the other side of the country), but hopefully they will let me keep my green bib for this year and I'll be aiming to at the very worst keep it, or the very best smash sub-75 and get myself a red bib start for next year.

I would say the former is the more likely option, but it doesn't hurt to have lofty goals. :)

Had a good talk with Jonny Dark at SMC today.

I think he will get to the magically sub 60:00. He has good incentive/s.

Jonny's performance in the half marathon today bids well for later in the year.

Check the website, but if I recall correctly, they take a minimum distance of 10K for SH1 & SH2 qualifiers.

Yeah I have checked the site but I can't find anything - unless i'm looking in the wrong place. I thought it would be a minimum of 10K for qualifying but just wanted to check

Nope.  Must be a certified 10k or half (or previous C2S!). :)

Just out of curiousity, what kind of 10km time would I need to qualify for red group? Based on the <75mins over 14kms it would be about a 5:20 pace, but with the shorter distance would they want a sub 50min 10km? Got to get my arse into gear and head to the 'big smoke' to do some races. I was woefully under-prepared last year (wats a hill?) and ran low 80s time, looking to do better this year.

If all goes well, this will be my 10th C2S. The goal is to go sub-60 for the first time.
