what is the distance around the sports field for the 3km time trial?
Hi Kelley
Hope you had a good weekend time away with your boys (great weather!). 3km timetrial = 7 and a half laps of the 400m track (which I will mark out with cones). It will be over before you know it!

Hi Y'all
Well done everyone this morning for the 400m efforts   :clapping: particularly given the amount of cross-training recently at the Blues Fest!
The 3km timetrial on Thursday morning will be at the sports fields - 3km = 7.5 laps of the track, which means it will be over before you know it. Runners will have to keep their own times (so please wear a watch) esp as I can't keep up with half of you! As this will be a relatively short training session, I was planning to do a quick overview of some core strength exercises suitable for runners, afterwards.
See you Thurs 5.45am warm-up (6.00am start)

Its been great being able to train sort of normally while here, though my legs might not necessarily agree. Maybe I should have seen the night out with (what I heard) a very subdued Bob Dylan rather than amazingly energetic Public Opinion Afro Orchestra ;)

Thanks for the sessions. Will definitely be in touch when I'm next in town.

Arrrrgh!  I'd put a post up last night saying change of location because the ground was so sodden at footie last night(but for some reason it hasn't come up) - and Elaine checked at the fields before we set off at 6am... so must have just missed you - SORRY! We ended up running on the Ewingsdale Road (out and back from the hospital to Belongil Creek - pulled up a bit short @ 2.71km, but it was far enough that it hurt!!). Apologies again; we'll have to do a repeat in the next couple of weeks.

We'll make up for it next time!
BTW would anyone be interested in a once/twice-a-month social run (10kms loops?) on a Saturday or Sunday morning. It might help out those preparing for marathons - reduce the tedium of the long run if you know you've got company on it's way (and 5/10km wimps like me can join in on the last lap!). Let me know what would fit in with your schedule.... and a good excuse to go for early morning coffee/pancakes afterwards

I do my tempo run on Weds, but the Saturday run sounds good! I know you do some serious mileage, so I could do an out and back, starting from your finish, and then be running towards you, to do the last 8-9kms together. I've got a race on next Sunday (mothers' day classic) and am away the next weekend (in Noosa) so won't be able to go out until 3 Saturday's time (excuses, excuses!) but would love to book in a long run with you for a few Saturday's time.... any other takers?!!!
BTW Ive just found out that the Athletics NSW road running championships are happening on 4 June, as part of the 'Sydney10' festival. Check-out 'www.sydney10.com.au' (I'm thinking of going down, if I can get a leave pass!)

Big Gold Star for Honeyfuelled this morning! The wind, the rain, the wet socks... and that was just in the carpark! Thanks for keeping me going through a hard session (6min repeats with 1min intevals - along the beach from main beach to the Pass). To be repeated, boys!!!

Congrats Honeyfuelled for your 10km time on Saturday (I saw Nic Saturday night); fantastic time (must be all this running you've been doing!!!) & pleased to hear you're still about BBB... I thought we might have lost you to the long hill runs around Byron (or that you were in taper mode for the half). See you all Thurs :)
P.S. sorry but I won't be running a track session this Tues... I've got a private coaching session on (getting a few young 'uns through their paces, prep for the regional cross-country champs).  Back to normal the week after.

Hi Gang
For anyone who's interested, Freckle is going to be running 12 x 1km rep session tomorrow (Weds 11 May) from 6am - pace aimed at marathoners. Meet on the path by the sewage works (follow footpath into Arkawal national park - entry off Broken Head Rd, just past the high school on lhs going down to Suffolk Park).
I'll still be running Thurs 1km reps session : 5.45 surf club. Hope to see you here or there!!!

Can't wait to find out what zippy time you cross the line in :)

I'd entered and was really looking forward to it but there's too much partying to be done here on Saturday arvo/evening/night ... one friend's housewarming, and two others engagement & send-off. So I've opted to give the half a miss and stay in Brissie. Will probably be suffering just as much on Sunday morning

Good luck BBB; you can do it!! The honour of Byron Bay lies with you (but no pressure!)

For everyone else.... next week's sessions will be :
Tuesday morning : short intervals @ rec fields 6am
Weds morning : 12 x 1km intervals @ sewage plant/arkawal park with Freckle
so no speedwork Thursday morning (I thought my legs were going to fall off this morning after yesterday's efforts!).

I'd be on for a long run next weekend (gotta do something to get my puny 5km legs ready for the half!)... if anyone's going out & wd like some company pls let me know where/when.

Wow!!! That's a FANTASTIC time... so happy that it all came together and you have totally smashed your previous time and race target -  I hope you celebrated Sunday night!!! As for the preferred time issue - it's so within your reach... and with a HM of 82.35 it's predicting a marathon somewhere between 2.50'45 and 2.53'20 (you've gone up a couple of VDOTs!!). Promise to get the rest of the Jack Daniels to you this week. WELL DONE  :Applause: ('car horns honking')

Awesome result BBB. Congrats! Can't wait to see what you do at the Goldy.

It a bit tough, needing 82mins for a preferred start in C2S. Still, if get up the front of the A1 pack you can get a reasonably clear run. Only thing is you might have to be there about 90mins before the gun goes to secure a good spot.

Well BBB, I have the answer for you...run with me again in 2 weeks and get under the 82 min !

In order to get a Corale Entry at Chicago in October I have hastily entered the Sri Chinmoy Half Marathon at Williamstown, Melbourne on Sunday 29 May.

Less than 2 weeks to go, so I'm off to Mullum tonight for one last 21k "long run" before I start to taper.

Now I know it is short notice, and not exactly an easy one to get to (I got $99 fares on Jetstar and am staying with a mate, so not too exy) but if anyone in the Byron Region is either going, or interested, do let me know!

Otherwise, maybe I will see someone on Thursday morning? Is that completely off now? (I cant possibly do Freckle's session after 21k the night before!)

Hey HF sounds like you deserve a bit of R&R!

I'm sorry but I'm going to bow out of a run tomorrow (Thurs) morning. I've done three days of speedwork in a row, finishing with Freckle's killer session this morning, and everything is still aching (10 hours later), so I think I need to take a rest!

I'm going to rework my own schedule, so that I'll be fit to continue the thursday morning runs - so will definetly see you next week. Can anyone else make a run with Jimmyfit tomorrow?

Actually, my knee's a bit sore after last night's 19k, so if you're out, I wont run tomorrow morning. (Good excuse anyway!)

But yes, see you next Thursday...

Hi JimmyFit
With just three days before the HM I would say no more than a 30min easy run to turn your legs over; maybe end with 3-4 sets of strides (sprinting style without the power) for 50-60m but no more than that. If I don't see you Thurs, good luck!! :Four Leaf Clover:

Hi Everyone
I'm taking advantage of a pupil free day tomorrow (and listening to my screaming quads after todays speedwork :Hypnotized: ) and heading out for an easy run later tomorrow....maybe a plod up to the lighthouse? I'll pass by the surf club about 6.30am'ish if anyone fancies it.
Otherwise does anyone want company for a long run Sat or Sunday? I'm trying to increase my mileage ready for GC, so looking to run about 1hr30 (@ 5.00-5.15/km) Cheers!

I'm going to run tomorrow after I've dropped the kids off at school... but if anyone fancies joining me for some speedwork/hills Friday morning give me a shout (6am). I should have just about recovered from this morning's 1km reps by then!

It was pitch black, raining (sideways) and about 4 degrees.... so it felt just like home to me!!! I managed to do 8, so pretty happy with that (still not getting easier, but I can at least do more). We were a bit thin on the ground though, so have decided some people must be made of sugar, hmmmmm?!(BBB?)
Good luck for the 10km at the weekend, and heeeuge wooooooot wooooot (& mind the crocs) for Alvin & Nic... we'll have to catch up for a beer to celebrate when you all get back. See you next week
